Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is argued by one section of society regard work as the major indispensable thing in life & have small interest in anything else, while others however opine of their hobbies & leisure activities regardless work in order to achieve happiness. Both sides of the debate offer valuable points and this essay will discuss both points before offering my viewpoint.

To begin with former view, The most prominent one is goal. Certain people are quite serious about their career and they want to achieve their targets as soon as posible without wasting any second. In other words, it offers not only a sense of individuality but also a financial security. Citing a pertinent example, multiple actors or sportspersons might achieve their targets effectively owing to strong minset, hardwork, consistency towards their work. Nextly, it would not be incorrect to mention that, sometimes they loose their family just to stay at top.

However opponents of this idea believe that hobbies play an integral part of life ,it provide us not only happiness but also satisfaction in life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The first body paragraph touches on career focus but lacks depth in explaining why some people prioritize work so heavily beyond general statements about financial security. The second paragraph regarding hobbies is slightly repetitive and lacks a cohesive link between the examples provided and the broader argument. While the position is clear, the supporting evidence is somewhat generic and could be more effectively linked to the prompt's core tension between work and leisure.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'However', and 'In compendium'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'Nextly' and 'In compendium' (which is not standard usage). Additionally, some sentences lack smooth transitions, making the flow feel slightly disjointed. Referencing is generally clear, but the internal structure of the paragraphs could be improved to ensure that each point leads logically to the next.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and sophistication. There are several instances of awkward word choice or non-standard collocations, such as 'major indispensable thing', 'opine of their hobbies', and 'knowlegable content'. Some attempts at more advanced vocabulary, like 'ameliorates' and 'monotony', are used incorrectly in context (e.g., 'hobbies should ameliorates'). Spelling errors, such as 'posible', 'minset', 'hardwork', 'loose' (instead of lose), and 'knowlegable', also detract from the overall quality of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'hobbies builds', 'work furnish'), missing articles, and incorrect preposition usage. For example, 'It is argued by one section of society regard work' is grammatically incorrect. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors is noticeable and occasionally forces the reader to re-read to grasp the intended meaning. A greater focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would significantly improve the score.
