Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both attitudes mentioned in the prompt and provides a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited and often repetitive. The arguments regarding why people prioritize work or hobbies are somewhat superficial and lack clear, logical expansion. For instance, the transition between the two groups is abrupt, and the personal example provided in the final paragraph, while relevant, is not fully integrated into a cohesive argument about the balance between work and leisure. To improve, you should aim to provide more nuanced reasons for these attitudes and ensure your personal opinion is clearly stated and supported throughout the essay rather than just at the end.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the internal structure of these paragraphs is weak. There is a lack of logical progression between sentences, making the flow of ideas disjointed. Cohesive devices are used very sparingly and often incorrectly, such as the repetitive use of 'Those people' or 'These kinds are people' to start sentences. Referencing is frequently unclear, and the relationship between ideas is not always explicitly stated. To reach a higher band, you need to use a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in contrast') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear central topic that is developed logically.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and often repetitive, which limits your ability to express complex ideas precisely. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'worked class' instead of 'working class' and 'signel seconds' instead of 'single seconds'. Some phrases are awkward, such as 'lived that type of life style be serious in her job life'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the lack of variety and the persistent errors in word formation and usage prevent the response from achieving a higher score. You should focus on learning collocations and using more precise academic vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede the reader's understanding. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'every one want', 'he have to'), tense usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, and there is a lack of complex sentence structures. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and apostrophes. To improve, you should focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and practicing the correct use of tenses before attempting more complex structures.
