Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both viewpoints and providing a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. The ideas are relevant, such as financial stability for the work-focused perspective and mental health for the hobby-focused perspective. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of why young people prioritize work could be more nuanced, and the transition between the two viewpoints is a bit abrupt. The position is clear throughout, but the supporting arguments could benefit from more depth and specific examples to reach a higher band level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Commencing with', 'Moreover', and 'On the other hand', which help guide the reader. However, some of these devices feel slightly mechanical or are used with minor grammatical errors, such as 'Commencing with the viewpoint of the multitude of people why they spend...'. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. Overall, the progression of ideas is coherent, but the management of cohesion is not yet fully flexible or sophisticated.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use less common vocabulary, such as 'contemporary era' and 'hectic environment'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'parallelly', 'passed exam', and 'without feel any burden'. These errors do not impede communication, but they demonstrate a lack of precision. To improve, the student should focus on collocations and ensuring that words are used in their correct grammatical form.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb forms, prepositions, and sentence fragments. Examples include 'the only essential thing... is just doing work or spend less time', 'which may even leads to', and 'individuals should have spend'. These errors are noticeable and occur throughout the text. While the student attempts complex structures, the control over them is inconsistent. A greater focus on subject-verb agreement and correct tense usage is required to improve the accuracy of the writing.
