You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Each thing has its own value in life. Ignoring any aspect of life can emerge with negative consequences. Some people regard work as the most important thing in life whereas some are more enthusiastic about their hobbies and leisure interests than their jobs. However, in my opinion being an enthusiastic about hobbies and leisure interests is a better thing. This essay will examine both views in the subsequent paragraphs.

A fraction of people believe that being an enthusiastic about hobbies and leisure interests is a good thing since, it decreases the risk of mental health issues. In addition to this, according to one of the prestigious psychiatrist of Britain, every second person in this world is facing trouble related to brain because of extreme work loads.

Apart from this, giving priority to hobbies and leisure interests also helps in developing more good, healthy and efficient relations with family members. Moreover, when person will spend quality time with his/her family then, it will automatically create a strong bond with family members and it will decrease mental health issues as well.

Another school of thought believes that, work is the most important thing in life since, handsome income cannot be earned without giving preference to work. Furthermore, money is required in almost all the tasks of the life. If person will not give importance to work on primary basis then, person won't be able to afford even the basic necessities of life which are food, shelter and cloth. Hence, it is indispensable that, work should be considered as the first priority of life.

Different people have different notions regarding the statement but I have sound reasons to advocate that hobbies and leisure interests should be considered as the top priority of life. Although, the challenges it poses should not be overlooked.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the view that work is the most important aspect of life and the view that hobbies and leisure should take precedence, while also clearly stating the writer's personal opinion. The position is maintained throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas in the body paragraphs tends to be somewhat repetitive and lacks specific examples or real-world evidence, relying instead on broad generalizations such as mentioning 'one of the prestigious psychiatrist of Britain' without naming them or providing concrete data. This places the response comfortably in Band 6, where relevant ideas are presented and a position is clear, but some ideas remain under-developed or lack sufficient support.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, separate body paragraphs for each viewpoint, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or awkward, such as starting consecutive paragraphs with 'Apart from this' and 'Another school of thought believes that'. Referencing is occasionally imprecise, for example, using 'when person will spend' and 'if person will not give', which creates a slightly disjointed flow. These features align best with Band 6, where the text has a coherent overall structure and logical progression, but cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'indispensable', 'prestigious', and 'necessities of life'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors throughout the text, including 'being an enthusiastic about', 'developing more good, healthy and efficient relations', and 'extreme work loads' instead of workloads. Additionally, there are awkward phrasing choices like 'handsome income' and 'on primary basis'. These inaccuracies do not severely impede communication, but they restrict the score to Band 6, characterised by an adequate vocabulary range and attempts at less common words that contain some errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing conditional structures ('If person will not give importance...') and relative clauses. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with missing articles ('according to one of the prestigious psychiatrist', 'when person will spend', 'basic necessities of life which are food, shelter and cloth') and inappropriate verb tense/modal combinations ('when person will spend quality time... then, it will automatically create'). Punctuation is also occasionally faulty with unnecessary commas interrupting the flow. Because errors are frequent in complex structures and can cause minor strain for the reader, the writing corresponds to Band 5.
