Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response is severely under-length, containing only 150 words against the required minimum of 250 words. This significantly limits the development of the ideas. While the student attempts to address the prompt by mentioning both attitudes toward work and leisure and introduces an intention to give an opinion, the essay cuts off mid-sentence in the third paragraph, leaving the position incomplete and arguments largely under-developed. Due to the major shortfall in length and incomplete development of the task, it falls into the lower-middle bands for Task Achievement. Band 5 is appropriate as the task is addressed only partially and the response is truncated.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay displays some basic attempts at organisation with introductory and transitional markers such as 'To begin' and 'On the other hand'. However, the overall progression is abruptly halted because the text cuts off incomplete in the third paragraph. Paragraphing is faulty, with the body and conclusion merged or missing entirely. Referencing is sometimes unclear, for example, using 'those people which' instead of 'who'. While cohesive devices are attempted, they are repetitive and mechanical. Based on these organisational limitations and the lack of a proper conclusion, the coherence and cohesion merit a band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student uses a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary for this task. Basic concepts are conveyed using common words like 'work', 'life', 'hobbies', and 'family'. There are noticeable lexical errors and inappropriate word choices, such as 'common people thinks' instead of 'some people think', 'work holistic' instead of 'workaholic', and spelling errors such as 'securty', 'inscure', and 'health' instead of 'healthy'. These errors and the restricted vocabulary range mean the lexical resource is restricted, causing some strain for the reader. This performance aligns with a Band 5.0 descriptor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'Other people are more enthusiastic related to their hobbies and leisure interests rather than their jobs.' However, grammatical control is weak, with frequent errors in subject-verb agreement ('common people thinks'), relative pronouns ('people which' instead of 'people who'), and spelling/word forms ('They things that'). Punctuation and spacing are also problematic throughout the response, with missing spaces after periods and commas. Because the attempted complex structures are frequently faulty and errors are persistent, this corresponds to a Band 5.0 for grammar.
