Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both viewpoints regarding work and hobbies, and offers a personal opinion at the end. However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive. For instance, the discussion on people doing jobs outside their field focuses heavily on salary issues and family disagreements without sufficient elaboration or concrete academic evidence. The introduction is brief and contains irrelevant opening remarks regarding job placement. While all parts of the task are touched upon, the arguments remain somewhat superficial and under-developed, placing this response at Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The text is organized into paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the overall progression is hindered by poor paragraphing conventions and repetitive transitions such as 'Firstly,' 'Secondly,' and 'In the last, i like to conclude that.' Referencing is frequently unclear, with ambiguous pronouns like 'they' and 'them' making it difficult to follow who is being referred to. Cohesive devices are used mechanically rather than flexibly, resulting in choppy transitions between sentences. This level of organization and cohesion aligns with Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary range is limited and repetitive throughout the essay. The student uses basic terms such as 'jobs,' 'money,' 'happy,' and 'field' excessively. There are numerous severe spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'regerd' instead of 'regard,' 'fileld' or 'feild' instead of 'field,' and 'hand full' instead of 'handful.' These lexical inaccuracies and persistent spelling mistakes cause noticeable strain for the reader, fitting the descriptors for Band 4.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The student attempts some complex structures, but they are frequently faulty and fraught with grammatical errors. Examples include 'the people do there jobs which they do not study,' 'according there field they have study in it,' and 'if they are want to follow their hobby.' Punctuation and capitalization are also problematic, with spacing errors around commas and periods, and a lowercase 'i' used for the pronoun 'I'. Simple sentences dominate, and grammatical errors occur in almost every sentence, significantly impeding communication and placing this response at Band 4.0.
