IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people regard work as the most important thing in life and have little interest in anything else. Other people are more enthusiastic about their hobbies and leisure interests than their jobs.
Discuss both these attitudes and give your own opinion.
You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Work-life balance has always been a topic of discussion. There is a significant number of people who believe that work is the most cruicial part of life. Others argue that enjoying the free time activities and giving time to hobbies is the most important aspect of the life. In my view, enjoying the free time is extremely important thing becuse having a free time, helps you to relax mentally as well as physically.
One of the main reasons why I strongly support the idea of enjoying leisure time, is the relaxation it provides to the body and brain.During the working hours, our body has to go through a lot of mental challenges and physical tiredness. lt is very necessary to give rest to the body and brain for a healthy life. For example, after a hectic day spent on site with workers and giving presentations, watching a comedy film in bed, always feels therapeutic.
Another reason i firmly believe, is the development of strong interpersonal skills and healthy relationships.Spending some quality time with friends or family helps to maintain a strong work-life balance and life feels much easier and happier. For instance, sometimes when I come from office, I sit with my friends and we talk about our lives and the social or personal issues we are facing. we help each other to find the solutions and make each other's lives comfortable and normal.
While some people argue that focusing on work is the only way of life, I believe that maintaining a healthy work-life balance is the perfect way of living in this depressing period of time. Those who hold this view, argue that working and earning money is the ultimate goal of life. However, this argument is not valid because what's the point of earning, when you don't have time and energy left for yourself and your loved ones.
In conclusion, while there are arguments on both sides, I firlmy beleive that work-life balance is the most cruicial thing for living a happy and healthy life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by discussing both attitudes towards work and leisure, while clearly stating a personal opinion. The writer establishes a clear position from the introduction and maintains it throughout the essay. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant explanations and personal examples, such as 'watching a comedy film in bed' to illustrate relaxation. While the discussion of the opposing view on work-centric lifestyles is slightly brief, the core requirements of the prompt are fully covered. The arguments are well-developed and directly relevant to the question, demonstrating a clear understanding of the prompt's demands and earning a solid band score for this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay displays a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct central topic, moving from the introduction to the physical benefits of leisure, the interpersonal benefits, a counter-argument, and a summarizing conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'One of the main reasons', 'Another reason', and 'While some people argue' are used effectively to guide the reader through the text. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, ensuring the essay is easy to follow. Referencing is generally clear, though minor mechanical transitions could be slightly more sophisticated to reach the higher bands. Overall, the structural flow is coherent and well-managed.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate to sufficient range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common phrases such as 'interpersonal skills', 'work-life balance', and 'therapeutic'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, including 'cruicial' instead of 'crucial', 'becuse' instead of 'because', 'i' in lowercase, and 'firlmy beleive'. Despite these slips, the vocabulary used is sufficient to convey the intended meaning without impeding communication. To achieve a higher band, the student must eliminate basic spelling inaccuracies and incorporate a wider variety of sophisticated, less common lexical items with precise collocation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The essay incorporates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and relative clauses, such as 'what's the point of earning, when you don't have time and energy left'. There are several grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text, including unnecessary comma splices (e.g., 'Another reason i firmly believe, is...') and minor punctuation omissions. However, these errors rarely impede communication, and the meaning remains clear. The grammatical control is generally adequate, featuring a sufficient number of error-free sentences, though greater precision and a wider variety of advanced structures are needed for a higher score.
