Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both perspectives—work-centered focus and leisure-focused lifestyles—and provides the writer's own opinion in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas is limited due to repetitive arguments and a lack of specific, concrete examples. For instance, the discussion on why companies hire people with varied interests remains generalised without elaboration. The position is clear throughout, but the superficial development and over-generalisation of points place this response securely at Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay attempts a logical organisation with clear paragraph breaks representing introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often mechanical, repetitive, or inaccurate, such as starting multiple paragraphs with 'On the other hand' or 'Now a day'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the progression of ideas falters because sentences lack smooth transitions. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion within paragraphs suffers from frequent structural disruptions. This matches the Band 5.0 descriptors.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary range is limited and minimally adequate for discussing the prompt. There are numerous spelling errors throughout the text, including 'differents', 'argu', 'Saveral', 'blieve', 'wicf', 'profassion', 'persin', 'widly', 'effecently', 'assimate', 'creat', 'hail', 'knowlege', 'concusion', 'interesd', 'amoung', and 'accoding'. These frequent lexical errors cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the score from reaching a higher band, placing the response at Band 4.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. Simple sentences dominate, and attempts at complex structures are consistently faulty, characterised by missing verbs, incorrect prepositions, and severe subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'rapid growth of differents interest start argu', 'individuals assume that take a interest', 'there are no use of knowledge'). Punctuation is also problematic. Because errors are extremely frequent and often obscure the intended meaning, the performance aligns with Band 4.0.
