Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some humans prioritise work in their lives while giving less importance to other interesets; however, other give paramount importance to their hobbies and leisure as compared to their jobs. While work is an important part of life that helps us maintain our well-being, I firmly believe that hobbies and leisure should be prioritized over work as they help us to enjoy the life.

Work is an important factor of human life. It not only helps us earn money to meet our living expenditures, but also play an important part to upgrade our skills. The more people work, the more they upskill themselves. As a result, their value in the society will increase. Along with that, work also helps us to engage ourselves with numerous people, share our ideas with them and make deals for various startups. Thus, it helps people grow professionally as well as financially. For example, many successful businessmen such as Alon Musk or Ambani focus more on their work that resultantly gives them a huge progress in their ventures.

On the other hand, leisure and hobbies help us enjoy our livelihood. These reconnect humans with nature and give opportunity to contemplate more about life and its purpose. Not only this, but preferring hobbies over work also ehnances our self discovery and help us develop several interests. Furthermore, leisure helps us to reconnect with nature and awakes our spiritual being. Through these, we explore nature, life and spirituality that make us better human beings. For example, most spiritual leaders and priorise hobbies and lesiure becuase it expands their idea of self.

To conclude, work is undeniably and essential part of life that helps us upscale our lifestyle. However, leisure and hobbies play a vital role in self exploration and spiritual awakening. Although people both are indespicable in life, I am inclined to focus more on hobbies and leisure to regain the purpose of life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both attitudes towards work and leisure, and clearly states the writer's own opinion in the introduction and conclusion. Ideas are extended and supported with general explanations and examples, such as mentioning entrepreneurs like Elon Musk and spiritual leaders. However, some of the arguments and examples feel slightly repetitive, particularly the points regarding nature and spirituality in the third paragraph. The position is maintained clearly throughout the essay, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.5 or solid Band 7.0 for Task Achievement. The student covers all necessary prompt elements adequately and extends their thoughts with relevant examples, though deeper development could push it higher.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a clear overall arrangement with a logical progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a clear central topic, moving from the introduction to the importance of work, then the value of hobbies, and finally a summarizing conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'While work is', 'As a result', 'On the other hand', and 'To conclude' are used appropriately to guide the reader. Paragraphing is used sufficiently. However, referencing and transitions are occasionally mechanical or slightly repetitive (e.g., 'Furthermore, leisure helps us to reconnect with nature...'), which prevents the cohesion from feeling entirely natural. Overall, the organizational structure is sound and meets the criteria for Band 6.5 to 7.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate and generally appropriate range of vocabulary for the task. Words and phrases such as 'prioritise', 'paramount importance', 'upskill themselves', and 'self exploration' indicate an attempt to use less common items. However, there are several noticeable lexical and spelling inaccuracies throughout the text, including 'interesets', 'other give' instead of 'others give', 'Alon Musk' (Elon Musk), 'resultantly', 'ehnances', 'priorise' (prioritise), 'lesiure', 'becuase', and 'indespicable' (likely meant 'indispensable'). These errors do not impede overall communication, but the frequency of spelling and word-form slips places this firmly in the Band 6.0 category.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional or participial clauses like 'The more people work, the more they upskill themselves' and 'Although people both are indespicable in life...'. There are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasings present, such as 'play an important part to upgrade' (instead of 'playing an important part in upgrading'), 'resultantly gives them' (awkward collocation), 'priorise hobbies and lesiure becuase it expands' (subject-verb agreement issue with plural 'leaders' and singular 'it'), and 'Although people both are indespicable'. Despite these errors, communication is rarely impeded, and the sentence variety demonstrates adequate control, leading to a Band 6.0.
