Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the 250-word minimum, containing only 200 words. Consequently, the development of ideas is truncated and lacks the necessary depth to reach higher bands. While the essay attempts to address all parts of the prompt—discussing work-centric attitudes, leisure-centric attitudes, and providing a personal opinion in the introduction—the second body paragraph remains severely under-developed, consisting of only two short sentences. The conclusion is entirely missing, preventing the writer from maintaining a clear position throughout. Due to the under-length penalty and insufficient extension of ideas, this performance aligns with Band 5.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay displays a basic overall arrangement with standard transitional markers such as 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the second body paragraph is abruptly brief. Cohesive devices are at times repetitive or awkwardly deployed, as seen in the phrase 'for the type people they find these things more pleasent'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the lack of a concluding paragraph disrupts the logical progression of the argument. Overall, the organizational structure is basic and lacks sophisticated control, fitting the criteria for Band 5.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for basic communication, featuring common terms like 'comfortable life', 'inner peace', and 'success'. However, there are notable spelling errors ('dedicade', 'sufficent', 'pleasent') and word-form inaccuracies, such as 'have less interest in something else' and 'free time activities more than jobs'. The writer attempts some less common phrasing like 'prioritize their work more', but lacks the precision required for higher bands. The lexical range is limited and minimally adequate, which corresponds to a Band 5 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and attempted complex structures, such as 'We are living in a world where money is everything.' However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several noticeable errors, including sentence fragments ('The main reason is that better future and comfortable life.') and awkward phrasing ('so that their life become much more comfortable and successful future'). Punctuation and subject-verb agreement issues appear throughout the text. Because errors are frequent and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, the grammar performance is indicative of Band 5.
