Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued by some individuals that work is the most important thing. While some individual are enthusiastic regarding their hobbies and put least interest in their work.I strongly believe that both should be given equal interest rather then putting interest in only work or hobbies. This essay will explain both these views and my opinion regarding it.

The first and most important reason to have interest in work and least in everything else is due to the increasing of there income and enhancement of their professional skills. This is because they want to be successful in the future and have the handsome amount of salary. For instance, some individuals work whole day to achieve bonus and appreciation from their boss. Moreover, they also expect to have increment every year.As a result, they are only stucked in their work for the better future ahead.

However, some people are enthusiastic about their hobbies and put little interest in their job.The major reason for this is that they want to have fun and a life without stress. For instance, person following his cricket hobby, leaves the office early before the working hours to play cricket in evening. As a result, an individual can happily follow his hobby without the mental stress. However, it can lead to financial crisis in future.

From my perspective, both should be treated equally.I have balanced approach for both of it.The main reason is that without the interest in work, individual can't meet his financial needs. However, without the hobbies, a person cannot relieve his mental stress. Both should be balanced for happy life and enhancement in the future.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both attitudes toward work and hobbies, and presents a clear position in the introduction and conclusion. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. While the explanation of why people focus solely on work is supported by mentions of financial incentives and career progression, the discussion surrounding hobby enthusiasts is slightly repetitive and lacks deeper extension. For instance, the example of leaving the office early to play cricket illustrates the point, but the consequences and motivations remain somewhat superficial. To move to a higher level, the ideas need to be extended with more detailed examples and thorough exploration throughout all body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, two distinct body paragraphs representing the two views, and a concluding stance. Paragraphing is used appropriately to divide the arguments. However, cohesion within sentences and paragraphs is at times mechanical or faulty. There is an over-reliance on basic cohesive devices like 'For instance' and 'As a result', and some referencing lacks clarity, such as 'both should be treated equally. I have balanced approach for both of it.' Progression is visible, but smoothing out the transitions between sentences would make the flow of ideas much more natural and cohesive.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, providing a sufficient range to communicate the main points. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items, such as 'enhancement of their professional skills' and 'financial crisis', though there are noticeable instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'stuckid in their work' and 'have the handsome amount of salary'. Spelling and word-form slips also occur, which do not impede communication but prevent the writing from achieving greater precision. To improve, the student should focus on natural phrasing, accurate word forms, and expanding the range of collocation patterns used.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as conditional and subordinate clauses. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles ('leaves the office early before working hours'), incorrect prepositions ('interest in their work' used inconsistently), and minor punctuation spacing issues. However, these errors are relatively infrequent and rarely impede communication. To reach a higher level, the student needs to incorporate a wider variety of error-free complex sentences and maintain tighter control over grammatical patterns and articles.
