IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people regard work as the most important thing in life and have little interest in anything else. Other people are more enthusiastic about their hobbies and leisure interests than their jobs.
Discuss both these attitudes and give your own opinion.
You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.
Student answer (Band 4.5)
Some people regard work as the most important thing in their routine and completely forgets that they have a life too.Their family, friends, hoobies, things that get them real happiness actually people like these have completely forgotten what real happiness even feels like
People wake up at 6 am,get ready and leave for their offices or business. No breakfast,no time for their families, nothing they think their sole purpose on this world is to earn
On the other hand their are also people who are more enthusiastic about their hobbies and leisure interests than their job they keep doing what they love and forget they also have to earn or people just spend time procastinating laying on a bed all the time
Most of the students nowadays don't even know how to earn for themselves they just depend on their parents and expect them to feed you which is totally wrong
In my opinion doing only one of these things is stupidity you have to manage both work and enjoyment together. If you've worked all day go out after the office timings and find your distractions you should have your goals set, once you achieve them go enjoy your life,go party
Everyone's life should be balanced if you're working, work hard give your all to the job but if you're on your off day don't even pick the boss's call and just enjoy your life, you've only
got it once.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response sits at a lower band because the length requirement is NOT met. The student's response contains 210 words, falling short of the 250-word minimum (21 words copied from the task prompt were not counted). Furthermore, the task is addressed only partially. The writer discusses both attitudes to some extent, mentioning workaholics and hobby enthusiasts, but the ideas are limited and under-developed. For instance, the discussion drifts into student behaviour and reliance on parents, which lacks clear relevance to the prompt. A personal opinion is present, but it lacks sufficient extension and supporting evidence to move into higher bands.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is some basic organisation in the response, but it lacks clear overall progression. The essay is divided into several blocks of text, but paragraphing is irregular and does not logically separate the main ideas. Cohesive devices are largely inadequate or missing, resulting in abrupt transitions between sentences and paragraphs. For example, moving from the description of office workers straight into hobbyists and then to students happens without clear linking phrases or logical bridges. Referencing is also weak, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of arguments smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic points about work and leisure. The writer attempts some everyday vocabulary such as 'enthusiastic', 'procrastinating', and 'distractions', but there are noticeable errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'hoobies' instead of 'hobbies' and 'procastinating' instead of 'procrastinating'. There is also heavy reliance on repetitive phrasing and simplistic descriptive words. To improve, the writer needs to incorporate a wider range of less common lexical items with greater precision regarding collocation and word form.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical range is quite limited, consisting mostly of simple and straightforward sentence forms. When the writer attempts complex sentences, they are often faulty and characterised by frequent punctuation errors, such as run-on sentences, comma splices, and missing full stops or capital letters at the beginnings of sentences (e.g., 'their family, friends, hoobies'). Frequent errors in subject-verb agreement, article use, and sentence boundaries are present throughout the text, which can cause some difficulty for the reader and keep the grammar score at this level.
