Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt partially by discussing both perspectives regarding work and leisure, and attempts to provide a personal opinion, such as stating, 'I fully believe that we enjoy the free time at the time of work only gave time to working.' However, the ideas are limited and frequently under-developed. While the writer touches on the drawbacks of excessive work, such as isolation and lack of family time, and the benefits of hobbies, the development of these points lacks clarity and focus. The position presented is somewhat unclear due to awkward expression, and arguments tend to drift into simplistic, repetitive descriptions without sufficient extension or relevant supporting examples. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to present a fully developed position with well-supported arguments and clear, sustained exploration of both views.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is some organisation in the essay, with distinct paragraphs attempting to introduce different viewpoints and examples, such as 'To begin with' and 'Moreover.' However, there is no clear overall progression, and the logical flow is frequently disrupted by confusing transitions and unclear referencing. Cohesive devices are often inadequate or inaccurate, leading to mechanical and disjointed connections between sentences. For instance, sentences like 'Like these people do not enjoy the enjoyable days in their life' fail to link ideas smoothly. Paragraphing is used to separate topics, but the internal structure of the paragraphs is weak. Achieving a higher band requires clear logical sequencing throughout, precise and natural use of cohesive devices, and a cohesive progression of ideas from sentence to sentence and paragraph to paragraph.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The lexical range used in this response is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, featuring frequent errors in word choice, word form, and spelling, such as 'impoetant,' 'additonally,' 'mankinds,' 'notbmake,' and 'hesitate' instead of 'hesitant.' There are also noticeable collocation issues, such as 'take meetngs' and 'stuck a plant.' These errors are frequent and occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader, although the general topic remains discernable. To progress, the writer must expand their vocabulary range, use less common lexical items accurately with appropriate style and collocation, and improve spelling and word formation control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The writing demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying primarily on simple sentences and basic coordination. Attempts at complex sentences are often faulty, leading to frequent errors in grammar, punctuation, and agreement, such as 'the work are very important,' 'these persons not profligate,' and 'the people take time to leisure as well as hobbies they are very smart.' Errors occur in verb forms, tenses, subject-verb agreement, articles, and prepositions, which frequently cause difficulty for the reader and obscure the intended meaning. To achieve a higher score, the writer must incorporate a wider variety of complex grammatical structures with a higher proportion of error-free sentences and improved control over basic syntactic rules.
