IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people regard work as the most important thing in life and have little interest in anything else. Other people are more enthusiastic about their hobbies and leisure interests than their jobs.
Discuss both these attitudes and give your own opinion.
You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
It has been observed that some people show more intrest to thier job and do'nt do any other activities. Although some believe that give more time to your hobbies and other things which make your mind more refresh. I disagree with the both groups and i personally support the opnion that you must manage your work and give equally time towards other activities. My inclination is elaborated in ensuing paragrapgh and relevant examples. The foremost argument to justify my stand is that a healthy mind can do work more properly and freshly. instead of the tierd stressed mind who don't have any thoughts except his job. for example a person who free at 5 pm, arrives home at 6 pm, and start his next day work from 7pm after taking his food. this person will sit at the same place and always think about his next work, due to this he faces a lot of complication in his health. In addition, the fact that those who are always busy in playing and hobbies can also have problems in jobs and may face poverty. But the answer of this, only that person is happy who know how to manage everything and how he have to make himself healthy and happier. Some people claim the reason that they only get life once so don't do work as seriously and do whateever you want. it's wrong belief. To conclude the discussion, it can be say that despite the fact that happy life is importnat and do those things who make ypur mind happy but if don't do work you may be called a useless person. my reason of manging the both chores is logically accetable.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You give a clear personal view that work and leisure should be balanced, and you offer relevant points about health and the risks of focusing only on hobbies. However, the task asks you to discuss both attitudes, and the work-focused view is not explained in enough depth: the example of someone working into the evening mainly illustrates its health costs. The leisure-focused view is also only briefly mentioned, without explaining why people value hobbies or supporting that attitude with a developed example. The claim that a person who does not work may be considered “useless” is asserted rather than reasoned through. Develop each viewpoint fairly, then connect your examples more directly to your position.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation: you introduce your position, present reasons, and provide a concluding paragraph. However, the progression between ideas is not consistently clear. The paragraph beginning “But the answer of this” does not clearly identify what it is answering, and the later point about people who believe life is short appears without a clear link to the preceding discussion. Connectors such as “Although,” “In addition,” and “To conclude” are used, but they do not always show the precise relationship between ideas. Paragraphing is also uneven, with several separate points compressed into the same section. Give each attitude its own focused paragraph and use clear topic sentences and references to guide the reader.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “healthy mind,” “hobbies,” “poverty,” and “manage,” so the main subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “show more interest to their job,” “make your mind more refresh,” and “faces a lot of complication in his health.” Spelling errors, including “intrest,” “thier,” and “importnat,” are noticeable and sometimes slow the reader. Aim for accurate, natural phrases rather than forcing formal-sounding expressions. For example, use “take an interest in their jobs,” “help them feel refreshed,” and “experience health problems.” Proofreading spelling and word forms would make your ideas easier to follow.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast introduced by “Although” and a conditional idea beginning “if don’t do work.” However, complex structures are often faulty, and frequent errors affect clarity. Examples include “Although some believe that give more time,” which lacks a clear subject and complete clause, and “only that person is happy who know,” where the verb does not agree with its subject. Other problems include “I disagree with the both groups,” “it can be say,” and inconsistent sentence punctuation, such as starting “instead” with a lowercase letter after a full stop. Practise complete clause structure, subject–verb agreement, articles, and consistent punctuation, then check each sentence for a clear subject and verb.
