Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response attempts to discuss both attitudes, but the treatment is uneven and the writer’s own position is only briefly stated in the conclusion: “Worklife balance is important.” The first body paragraph describes employees who prioritise work, using healthcare workers as an example, but does not explain why some people see work as the most important part of life. The second paragraph lists leisure activities rather than developing why people may value hobbies more than jobs. The conclusion also does not clearly compare the two views or explain the writer’s preference. The response is 247 words, below the 250-word minimum; the 32 words copied from the task prompt are not counted. Develop the reasons behind each attitude and state a clear opinion supported by an example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs on work and leisure, and a concluding sentence. This helps the reader identify the two broad topics. However, progression within the paragraphs is weak. The work paragraph moves from career ambition to family time, healthcare schedules and stress without clearly linking these points to the attitude in the question. The leisure paragraph becomes a long list of activities, with little grouping or explanation. Linking phrases such as “With regard to their hobbies” provide some signposting, but connections between ideas are often missing, and the conclusion does not draw the discussion together. Organise each body paragraph around one main reason, then explain and illustrate it; use clear references and transitions to show how examples support that reason.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response uses some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “career,” “work life balance,” “hectic duty schedule,” “workload,” “leisure time” and “personal preferences.” These terms make the general subject clear, and there is some attempt to use more specific language, such as “shortage of staff.” However, vocabulary is often repetitive or imprecise, especially in the repeated lists of activities, and several collocations or word forms are unnatural: “concerned for their job,” “give time to their self,” and “exploring food.” Spelling and spacing are also inconsistent, as in “donot” and “Worklife.” Aim for more precise phrases that explain motivations and benefits, rather than adding further activity lists, and check common collocations and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing includes mostly simple statements and some attempts at longer structures, such as “Leaves are not easily granted to them because of shortage of staff and workload.” Meaning is generally recoverable, but frequent errors in agreement, verb forms, articles and sentence construction limit accuracy. Examples include “Some goes” and “Other enjoying,” where the subject and verb do not agree, and “They worked for more than 48 hours per week,” which shifts tense from the surrounding present-tense discussion. Articles are missing in phrases such as “a individual” and “for shortage of staff.” Punctuation and spacing also need attention, particularly where sentences run together. Practise accurate present-tense patterns and plural subjects, then proofread each sentence for articles, agreement and sentence boundaries.
