Student answer (Band 6.0)
People have different opinions about work and leisure activites. Some people focus mainly on theior jobs, while others prefer spending time on their hobbies. I believe that work and hobbies are equally important, and people should always maintain a balance between them.
To begin with, there are several reason behind that work is essential part of life. First, a job helps people to earn money and support their families. It allows them to full fill their basic needs and improve their living standard. For example, people can buy clothes, food and provide good education to their childern. Second, work helps people achieve goals and financial independent. People can easily fulfill their life goal such as they can get time to time promotions and higher salaries. However, spending too much time at work also can cause stress.
On the other hand, hobbies and leisure activites also im[portanat for people. Primary, hobbies helps people to stay calm and realax after long working hours. They can also spend quality time with their friends and famili members for mental and physical well-being. For instance, playing sports, listening to music and travelling can make people more happy and refreshed. However, people should not ignore jobs, as they needs money to fulfill their daily expenses.
In conlucion, although work helps for financial stability and better living standard, hobbies and leisure time give them happiness and good health. I believe that both work and hobbies are equally important because people should hard work but also make time for hobbies.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both attitudes and give a clear opinion: the introduction and conclusion state that work and hobbies should be balanced. The discussion of work is relevant, explaining income, family support and career goals, while the hobbies paragraph links leisure to relaxation and well-being. These points meet the task, but some are more fully explained than others. For example, the benefits of work include several details, whereas the claim that hobbies support “mental and physical well-being” is not developed beyond a list of activities. The response would be stronger if you explored why some people prioritise work or hobbies and added a specific example showing how balance benefits someone. Your position is clear, but its supporting reasoning could be extended further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two attitudes, and a conclusion. The progression is easy to follow, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help identify the stages of the argument. This already gives the essay a coherent structure. To make the organisation more flexible and polished, connect ideas within paragraphs more explicitly rather than relying mainly on formulaic transitions. For instance, explain how earning money leads to family security before moving to career goals. Some references are also vague, such as “they” in “they can get time to time promotions,” which makes the intended subject less clear. More precise linking and referencing would strengthen the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “financial stability,” “basic needs,” “promotions,” and “well-being.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling, word-form and collocation errors reduce precision. Examples include “activites,” “childern,” “realax,” and “conlucion,” as well as “financial independent” and “make people more happy.” These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall argument, but they make the writing less controlled. Build a reliable set of phrases for discussing employment and leisure, and check spelling and word forms carefully. More precise expressions would also help you avoid repeating general terms such as “important” and “people.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple sentences and some longer structures, including contrast with “although” and “while,” and most ideas remain understandable. There are, however, some errors in agreement, articles and sentence construction. For example, “there are several reason” needs a plural noun, “hobbies helps” has a subject–verb agreement problem, and “work is essential part of life” is missing an article. In “people should hard work,” the verb pattern is incorrect; use “should work hard.” These issues are generally local rather than obscuring the message. To improve, check each sentence for a clear subject and correctly formed verb, and practise combining clauses while maintaining accurate agreement and articles.
