Student answer (Band 6.0)

In modern society, people are moving towards a more dynamic life than any time in the past. While investing time and energy in building a secure and successful future, they are forgetting to enjoy the present time or spare any time for leisure. I believe that people should spend a substantial amount of time enjoying their hobbies or in leisure.

Undeniably, work is an significant part of our life. In this day and age, it has become more crucial that we work harder to achieve our dream, because the world has turned into a global village where every person is in compitition with another person. Technology is evolving everyday, so we need to cope up with it. As a result, people are working harder than ever. They need to make sure that their future is secured and they are earning enough to keep up with the society. This results in less time for hobbies and recreation. Many people do not consider them as an essential part of life as they do not bring any monetary profit. Consequently, Many forms of art and recreation are dying out.

Recreational activities serve as a means of recharging our drained battery. We unwind ourselves through hobbies and other activities. Although, we do not earn any money through them, we get much more than that. Our busy life style often causes anxiety and stress which may lead to psychological problems in the long run.It is through our hobbies that we release these stresses. People should be more interested about them and spend more time enjoying them.

Additionally, we can connect with other people who share the same interest as us. We can bond over shared activities such as birds watching, cycling, photography. Some activities are physically benificial. For instance, cycling can improve our physic as well as give us enjoyment. Hobbies like fishing improves concentration.

To conclude, I would like to reiterate that we cannot deny the need of working hard to maintain the modern lifestyle, however we should also manage time for recreation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both attitudes by explaining why people prioritise work and why leisure matters, and your position—that people should make time for hobbies—is clear in the introduction and conclusion. The discussion of work is relevant, particularly the pressure to secure the future and keep up with society. However, the task asks you to discuss people who regard work as the most important thing and those who are more enthusiastic about leisure; the second attitude receives more attention as a general case for recreation than as a direct comparison with work-centred people. Some points, such as art forms dying out and fishing improving concentration, are introduced but not fully explained or supported. Develop fewer examples in greater depth and compare the two outlooks more explicitly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph on work, two paragraphs on leisure, and a conclusion. The progression from work pressures to the personal and social benefits of hobbies is easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “As a result,” “Consequently,” and “Additionally” help signal relationships between ideas. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some flexibility in sequencing. At times, however, connections feel mechanical or unclear: “Although, we do not earn any money through them” does not smoothly connect to the preceding sentence, and the conclusion mainly repeats the position rather than drawing the comparison together. Use referencing more precisely and make each paragraph’s central point and its link to the question explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for the topic, including phrases such as “secure and successful future,” “monetary profit,” “psychological problems,” and “shared activities.” These choices help communicate both the pressures of employment and the benefits of leisure. You also attempt less common expressions, but some are inaccurate or unnatural, including “cope up with it,” “recreational activities serve as a means of recharging our drained battery,” and “interested about them.” Spelling slips such as “compitition,” “benificial,” and “everyday” (where “every day” is intended) also reduce accuracy. Aim for natural collocations and check spelling carefully; precise, conventional phrasing will make your ideas clearer without requiring more elaborate vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a subordinate clause in “While investing time and energy…” and a relative clause in “which may lead to psychological problems.” Most ideas remain understandable, and the errors do not generally prevent communication. Some grammatical inaccuracies persist, however: “an significant part” has an article error, “Many people do not consider them” is followed by an incorrectly capitalised “Consequently,” and “Hobbies like fishing improves” has subject–verb disagreement. There are also punctuation issues, such as the comma after “Although” and the missing space after “long run.” Review articles, agreement, and sentence punctuation, then proofread complex sentences to ensure their clauses are joined correctly.
