Some people regard work as the most important thing in life and have little interest in anything else. Other people are more enthusiastic about their hobbies and leisure interests than their jobs.

You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some people are work orianted and they take their work as fundamental thing in life and pay less attention to other things, while some individuals are less interested in their job and more excited about other activities such as hobbies. In my point, their should be balance and people should devide their time for both job and hobbies.

There are some people who are really focused on their job and they ignore other activities. They take their work as the basic part of their lifes for instance my elder sister, she is really passionate about her job and spend whole day while working. All the time either she is working or learning new things about her work. This cycle repeats each day and now she has depression issue. On the other hand my younger sister she is really lively and all the time she is thinging about going out side with friends or her different hobbies. She always ignore her acadeic work and most of the time misses her quizes and assignments. She loves painting so most of the time she is painting at the time of study. Consiquently, at exam day she is panicing again and again.

According to my perspective, their should be balance. People should not more focused on work or hobbies. They should apply balanced approach. As we are human being and we need rest also intertainment but we should not ignore our responsibilities and work. Balance will make them calm and lower their stress.

In conclusion, although taking work as important thing is good but do not pay attention to other things is harmful. In my point of view, individuals should follow the balaceed approach for well being of their lifes.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both attitudes and state a clear view: “there should be balance” between work and hobbies. The examples of your sisters make the contrast concrete, and you explain possible consequences—depression from overwork and missed quizzes from prioritising leisure. However, the discussion is uneven: the work-focused attitude is illustrated mainly through one personal example, while the leisure-focused example is also described rather than explored in depth. The essay would be stronger if you explained more generally why people prioritise each area and developed how a balanced approach benefits individuals, rather than repeating that balance is needed. Your position is relevant throughout, but some supporting ideas remain under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall shape: an introduction, a paragraph contrasting the two attitudes, a paragraph giving your view, and a conclusion. The contrastive links “while” and “On the other hand” help readers follow the discussion, and the examples are placed in a logical sequence. This coherent arrangement is a strength. To make progression more fluent, use clearer links between the examples and the point they illustrate; the shift from your elder sister to your younger sister is understandable but abrupt. Some linking is repetitive or mechanical, particularly the repeated statement that balance is needed. Referencing such as “they” can also be unclear because it may refer to people generally or to the sisters. More varied transitions and explicit topic sentences would improve cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “passionate,” “responsibilities,” “hobbies,” and “well being.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, such as “orianted,” “thinging,” “acadeic,” and “balaceed.” Some phrases are also unnatural, including “take their work as fundamental thing” and “at the time of study.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall argument, but they make the writing less fluent and occasionally require interpretation. Build a bank of accurate collocations for work-life balance and check spelling carefully. Using more precise alternatives for repeated words such as “work” and “things” would also strengthen the response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrastive opening with “while” and a sentence beginning “although.” The main meaning is generally recoverable, but errors in sentence structure and grammatical forms occur across the response. For example, “she … spend whole day” has a subject–verb agreement error and an incomplete article pattern, while “she always ignore” also needs agreement. The sentence beginning “As we are human being” is not smoothly connected to the following clause, and “their should be balance” shows an incorrect construction. Some punctuation choices, especially the long sentence about your elder sister, make relationships between ideas less clear. Practise accurate agreement, articles, and joining clauses, then proofread each sentence.
