Student answer (Band 6.0)
Other people believe that work is the most essential thing in life, while some people think that hobbies and leisure are interesting that their jobs. The primary reason people consider work as the most crucial thing in life because their financial needs depend on it. On the other hand, I believe that having an interest in hobbies over jobs is a positive way to cope up with stress, while leisure should be balanced to maintain work motivation.
Certain individuals consider profession as an important thing because their financial system depend on it. Many people have debts and expenses to meet monthly, they also have a family to provide their daily needs especially for children in their education. For example, in New Zealand a lot of immigrants find it difficult to have a leisure time because mostly of the people who migrated only have a work-visa or a student-visa. Subsequently, they can be deported if they dont participate in the workforce in New Zealand. By focusing intently on their work can increase the chances of converting their visas towards residency.
On the other hand, some people are attracted to leisure and hobbies because free-time provides pleasure and comfort. Nowadays, a lot of people are sitting and doom-scrolling on certain applications because it gives dopamine which can affect how they work. Long time exposure to social media has a detrimental effect, a lot of people are influenced to certain quotes that promotes laziness. For instance, in Tiktok a lot of videos are posted to encourage people to make a business and quit their jobs. In contrast, hobbies are a way to express one-self such as singing, dancing and painting. Many people make their hobbies as a coping mechanism to relieve stress from work. As an example, in the Philippines filipinos love to sing especially on special ocassions to release their stress.
In conclusion, some people focus on work to meet their life necessity and to provide financial support to their loved ones, I believe that leisure should be limit to maintain work motivation, while hobbies are a way to cope with stress.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both attitudes and state a position: work is important for financial security, while hobbies can relieve stress, and leisure should be balanced with work. The discussion of financial responsibilities is supported with examples about family expenses and migrants’ visa circumstances. The hobbies paragraph also gives relevant examples, including singing in the Philippines. However, the treatment is uneven: the work-focused view is mainly explained through financial necessity, while the other view shifts into criticism of social media and quitting jobs rather than fully exploring why people prioritise leisure. Your opinion is present, but the idea that leisure should be limited to maintain motivation could be explained more clearly and supported with a specific example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two attitudes, and a conclusion. Transitions such as “On the other hand,” “For example,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the discussion. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. In the leisure paragraph, the move from doom-scrolling and social-media messages to hobbies as stress relief needs a clearer explanation, since these points seem to describe different effects of leisure. The sentence beginning “Many people have debts and expenses to meet monthly” also joins related ideas with a comma, weakening the flow. Use topic sentences that preview each paragraph’s main point and link examples explicitly to the argument they support.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “financial needs,” “detrimental effect,” “coping mechanism,” and “residency.” These choices help communicate ideas about work, leisure, and stress, and the meaning is generally clear. There are also some inaccurate or unnatural word choices and collocations, such as “financial system depend on it,” “interesting that their jobs,” and “cope up with stress.” Spelling and word-form slips, including “ocassions” and “one-self,” also reduce precision. Aim for more natural combinations and check spelling carefully. For example, describe people as prioritising work because they depend on their income, and say that hobbies help them cope with stress.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “because,” “while,” and “if,” and most ideas remain understandable. Some grammatical errors persist, particularly with subject–verb agreement, sentence boundaries, and clause structure. For example, “their financial system depend on it” has an agreement problem, while “Many people have debts and expenses to meet monthly, they also have a family” joins two independent clauses with a comma. The construction “By focusing intently on their work can increase” also lacks a clear grammatical subject. Practise checking agreement and making sure each sentence has a complete, correctly connected clause. More accurate control of these structures would make your argument easier to read.
