IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people regard work as the most important thing in life and have little interest in anything else. Other people are more enthusiastic about their hobbies and leisure interests than their jobs.
Discuss both these attitudes and give your own opinion.
You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
In my opinion there is two conditions in this situation the worker or employee who is doing job and understanding his profession as its passion also he will give more attention to his work and concentrate and complete tasks on time for example the worker and trainees who enjoys doing field work and recent a student of biomedical engineering and do not get bored when doing its assigned work can perform or do better when job or tasks he likes have assigned him. and on the other hand the people not related to field and out of field come and join any company or institute out of their interest they cant have that energy or will power to do work and perform like the one who have interest in his work for example i am the employer of my workers or trainees working in my company rehman biomedical services the students who have interest they dont even think to go home before the end or off time they enjoys or get excited when i teach them any new thing or whenever we solve any problem we enjoy its in troubleshooting and diagnosing, faults and errors in medical equipments and other trainees and students who dont have any interest they often using their mobile phones staring at wall clock no concentration at work just passing their time at worrkplace and go homes so it is the explanation and example relevnt to my real life experience about employees and trainees working at workplace

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You give a relevant personal view that people who enjoy their work may be more focused and perform better, and your example from Rehman Biomedical Services makes this point concrete. However, the response does not adequately discuss both attitudes in the question: it mainly argues that interest in work improves performance, while the contrasting view—that hobbies and leisure can matter more than a job—is not explained. Your position is also not stated clearly as a direct answer to which attitude you support, and several ideas remain difficult to follow or are asserted rather than developed. To strengthen the response, explain the value people find in leisure, compare the two perspectives, and conclude with a clear opinion supported by a focused example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response around two contrasting groups, signalled by “In my opinion” and “on the other hand,” and the workplace example gives the discussion a recognisable focus. However, the ideas are largely presented in one long block, with no clear paragraphing or overall progression. The opening sentence is difficult to interpret, and the extended example combines several points without clear boundaries, making relationships between ideas hard to track. Linking phrases such as “for example” are repeated, while the contrast is not developed into a balanced discussion. Use separate paragraphs for the two attitudes and your opinion, and make each paragraph follow a clear point–explanation–example sequence.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “profession,” “concentrate,” “assigned work,” “interest,” and “troubleshooting and diagnosing.” These terms help communicate the workplace context and your personal example. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repetitive or imprecise, such as “do work and perform like the one who have interest” and “passing their time at workplace.” Spelling and word-form errors, including “relevnt,” “worrkplace,” and “enjoys,” also reduce clarity and control. Aim for more precise expressions for motivation and leisure, and check spelling and collocations. For instance, “take pride in their work” is more natural than “have interest in his work.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to connect ideas in longer sentences and use examples, but control of sentence structure is inconsistent. The opening, “there is two conditions,” has subject–verb disagreement, and the sentence beginning “the worker or employee” continues through several clauses without a clear grammatical structure. Other examples include “the students who have interest they dont even think” and “they enjoys,” where agreement and clause construction are faulty. Articles, pronouns, and punctuation are also often missing, so sentence boundaries are unclear and the reader must work to interpret the meaning. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with controlled clauses using “because,” “while,” or “although.”
