Student answer (Band 6.0)
These days there has been an argument on whether work is more important in life or being involved in hobbies and other leisure interests are also equally important. Both views have some pros and cons. In my opinion, Individuals should be more enthusiastic about their hobbies and passions than being too much workaholic.
It could be argued that, work is the most important thing in life becasure without job we cannot earn money and provide for our family. For a successfull and secure life, earning money by doing job should be the pririty of one's life. Doing excessive work will help them to achieve success in their career and help them get promotion. As a result, they can have the opportunity of leading their dream life.
Although work is crucial in our life, focusing only on work will make individual stressed and reduce time for their families. Spending quality time with families is the most satisfying thing in life and all we do in life is for our family. Hence, work should be the secoondary priority in our life.
Being able to work on hobbies helps people boosting their concentration, relaxing, rechrging and reducing stress. By spending few hours a day on hobbies make people more energetic and attentive to work. It ensure an increase of their productivity. For example, I work for 5 days and in the weekends I cook for my family and spend quality time with them. As cooking is one of my hobbies, it helps me to unwind from a hectic week.
In conclusion, I largely agree that people should be more focused on their hobbies and other passions than their jobs. It is because, maintaining a healthy balance on professional responsibilities and personal life helps people to be more enthusiastic in life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You discuss both attitudes: the work-focused view is supported by the need to earn money, provide for family and progress in a career, while the case for leisure is linked to reducing stress and improving productivity. Your position is also clear: you favour hobbies and personal interests, particularly when balanced with work. The personal example about cooking makes this view more concrete. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For instance, the claim that work should be a “secondary priority” is not reconciled with the earlier argument that it enables financial security, and the work-focused perspective could be developed beyond promotion and a “dream life.” Explain more precisely how people can weigh these competing needs and support the broader claims with further reasoning.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate discussion of work and leisure, a personal example, and a conclusion. Paragraphs generally have a central focus, and linking expressions such as “Although,” “As a result,” and “For example” help show relationships between ideas. This makes the argument easy to follow overall. Some connections are nevertheless mechanical or not fully clear. “Hence, work should be the secondary priority” follows the point about family time, but the reasoning connecting these ideas needs to be made explicit. The conclusion also repeats the preference for hobbies without drawing together the two sides. Use more precise transitions and refer back to the central idea of balancing work and leisure to create stronger progression between paragraphs.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “career,” “promotion,” “concentration,” “productivity,” and “unwind.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and phrases such as “quality time” and “hectic week” add some specificity. However, several spelling errors and awkward word choices reduce accuracy and polish: “becasure,” “successfull,” “pririty,” “rechrging,” and “secoondary” should be corrected. Some collocations are also unnatural, such as “doing job,” “helps people boosting,” and “maintaining a healthy balance on professional responsibilities.” Aim for more precise, natural combinations and check spelling carefully. This would make your vocabulary more flexible and appropriate for a formal discussion essay.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including contrast clauses (“Although work is crucial…”) and a conditional sentence (“without job we cannot earn money”). Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “being involved in hobbies and other leisure interests are” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “By spending few hours a day on hobbies make people…” has a faulty sentence structure. In “It ensure an increase,” the subject and verb do not agree, and “all we do in life is for our family” needs more accurate article and number choices. Review agreement, articles, and how introductory phrases connect to the main clause. More consistently accurate complex sentences would strengthen the response.
