Student answer (Band 5.5)

According to many people, doctors and engineers, should be worked within the country that they did their studies, while others argue that, they should be allow to work in all over the world as according to their own wish. In this essey, I will discuss both these views and will give my opinion.

Firstly, most countries spend a lot of money to create a professional, such as doctor or an engineer. The government usually make this investment through the tax obtained by the all the citizens in the country. People also pay taxes without dought because they also know the need of the doctors and engineers to the country. Secondly, government recruit the number of students that enrole to the universities according to the needs of the country. They look criterias such as, the number of vacancies in the hospitals within the country. Therefore, if the doctors and engineers will leave the country it may course for the shortage of the service. As an example. according to a research, the number of deaths in Sri Lanka has been increasing over past five years due to shortage of specialist doctors. It badly affect for the whole nation. Because the health and the engineering fields are one of the most important fields in each country.

On the other hand, most developing countries still do not understand the proper value of the professions such as engineering and medicine. Most of the time they need to work ultimate hours with a very low payment. The government should not provide the value to their educational level and their sacrifices. Within the countries like Sri Lanka, doctors need to treat huge amount of patients within a day. So, they need to stay after their working hours and need to give the survice for very low payment. Also, some people always try to bully that professions. It make the professionals tend to go abroad.

In conclusion, most countries set the number of students for the professions such as medicine and engineering according to the needs of the countries. Also, the people in the country spend a significant amount of money from their earnings to make a doctor or an engineer. But, most countries do not identified the proper value of these jobs and they do not provide a significant salary and resources for those professionals. In my opinion, if those professions couldn't earn the value for them within their home country, they should be free to work in another country which give a high demand for their jobs.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and give a clear position: professionals may leave when their home country fails to value or reward their work. The discussion of public investment, workforce planning and possible shortages is relevant, and the Sri Lanka example helps illustrate the first view. However, the case for requiring professionals to remain is developed more fully than the case for freedom of movement; the latter focuses mainly on low pay, long hours and poor treatment, without exploring why professionals should have the right to choose or what benefits working abroad can bring. Some claims, such as the reported rise in deaths, would also be stronger with clearer explanation or support. The response covers the task, but some ideas need fuller development.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion that restates your position. Sequencing is generally easy to follow, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help the reader identify the stages of the argument. However, some linking is mechanical, and connections between claims are not always clear. For example, “Therefore, if the doctors and engineers will leave the country” introduces a consequence, but the conditional construction is awkward and the following explanation could be more directly connected. The sentence beginning “As an example” is also separated by a full stop from the point it supports. Use transitions more selectively and make the relationship between evidence and claims explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “investment,” “shortage,” “specialist doctors,” “educational level,” and “significant salary and resources.” This gives you enough range to discuss public funding, working conditions and professional migration. However, several inaccurate word choices, collocations and spelling errors reduce precision, such as “course for the shortage,” “ultimate hours,” “give the survice,” and “bully that professions.” “Value” is also repeated frequently, where more specific terms could clarify whether you mean pay, respect or working conditions. These errors do not prevent the main ideas from being understood, but careful proofreading and more natural topic-specific phrasing would make the argument clearer and more convincing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including conditional and cause-and-effect structures, and the overall meaning is usually understandable. However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction occur across the response. For example, “they should be allow” needs a passive form, “The government usually make” has a subject–verb agreement error, and “if the doctors and engineers will leave” uses an unsuitable verb form in the conditional clause. There are also awkward constructions such as “It badly affect for the whole nation” and “most countries do not identified.” These patterns show that complex structures are being attempted, but control is inconsistent. Practise accurate conditionals and subject–verb agreement, and check each sentence for a complete, correctly formed clause.
