IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people believe that professionals, such as doctors and engineers, should be required to work in the country where they did their training. Others believe they should be free to work in another country if they wish.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
A section of individuals believe that experts in various fields like engineering and medicine should practice in the nations where they trained whereas others maintain that once they are done with their studies, they should be given the opportunity to work in any country of their choice. While some people believe that working in the country where you trained is important,I disagree with this statement as freedom is needed by these experts to display their skills in different settings.
On one hand training of these professionals usually take a lot of time and vast resources, it is usally recommended that they practise in the nations where they trained in order to give back to the community. For instance, doctors going out of the country will lead to brain drain leaving behind a state without the required experts. Furthermore, when they practice in their countries they are able to make necessary developments in their respective fields of study promoting research and innovation.
On the other hand, there is an arguement on the need to explore other countries for more knowledge and skills. Having exposure and chance to be in different settings set an incredible opportunity to learn while practicing. For example, engineers working on projects that were not part of their study due to technological differences provides a chance for their improvement. This enables them gain more experience and sharpen their skills.
In my opinion, i believe in giving people chance to showcase their skills in whichever place they want to is important and should not be restricted. Limiting their space of practise may not give them the chance to reach their full potential and be productive.
In conclusion, individuals should be left to choose where to work after completing their studies whithout restricting them to where they did their training.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both views and state a clear opinion: you support professionals being free to choose where they work. The discussion of local training costs and possible brain drain gives a relevant reason for requiring graduates to serve their training country, while the point about gaining experience in different technological settings supports the opposing view. This covers the task well, and your position is consistent. However, some ideas are less fully developed than others: the claim that professionals can promote research and innovation at home is not explained, and the engineering example remains general rather than showing a specific benefit. To strengthen the response further, explain the consequences of each point and connect your examples more directly to your opinion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay has a clear overall progression: an introduction presents the debate and your position, two body paragraphs discuss the contrasting views, and the conclusion restates your preference. Paragraphing is appropriate, and signposts such as “On one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. The ideas within each paragraph are generally ordered logically. At times, however, the links between claims are a little mechanical, and some references could be clearer—for example, “This enables them gain more experience” does not specify precisely which aspect of working abroad produces that benefit. Use a wider range of linking and referencing, and make the relationship between each example and its supporting claim explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “brain drain,” “resources,” “research and innovation,” “exposure,” and “technological differences.” These choices allow you to discuss both the costs of training professionals and the benefits of international experience. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “showcase their skills” and “reach their full potential.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “a section of individuals,” “an arguement on the need,” and “give people chance.” Spelling slips such as “usally,” “whithout,” and “practise” (where the noun form is intended) also reduce precision. Aim for more natural collocations and check spelling and word forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a contrast clause in the introduction and longer sentences with “in order to” and “while.” Most of the meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors persist. For example, “Having exposure and chance to be in different settings set an incredible opportunity” has problems with article use and subject–verb agreement, while “This enables them gain” needs “to gain.” There are also punctuation and capitalisation slips, such as the missing space after “important,” and the lowercase “i” in “In my opinion, i believe.” Work on accurate agreement, infinitive patterns, articles, and sentence punctuation while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
