Student answer (Band 6.5)

Nowadays, people often go abroad to find job for a better future. Some people argue that people, mainly doctor and engineer should do jobs in their own country to provide services for their homeland. In contrast, others suggest that people should have a freewill regarding this matter as they might get better job opportunities and much better standard of living. In my opinion, they should always have a right to choose which country they wish to serve.

The first view states that people should pe only promoting their own countries as that is the land which made them successful in the first place. The individuals are forever indebted to their homeland. Having skilled doctors and engineers in the country improves the standard of living of the country. As more development would result in having better infrastructure, facilities and basic necessities. Moreover, this would help the country to prosper, and local culture would be promoted as the country would be represented globally.

On the other hand, some individuals believe people should always have the right to opt for another countries, as they are usually offered better job opportunities and have better standard of living. Foreign countries often value your degree better than your country. Consequently, individuals are offered much greater salaries and services. For instance, my father was working with the same salary as a surgeon for almost 10 years. However, when he got a job opportunity in Singapore, his wage was much higher and kept getting bonuses for the amount of time he served. He also was accommodated with a car and house for his job.

In conclusion, promoting their homeland should be the first priority of a person. However, I strongly believe that a person should always look for better lifestyle and growth for their future. Hence, they should be free to chose to work in ano

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the economic benefits of retaining talent versus the individual's right to seek better opportunities. However, the conclusion is incomplete, cutting off mid-sentence, which prevents a fully developed final summary. While the main body paragraphs provide sufficient support, the lack of a finished conclusion impacts the overall task completion. To reach a higher band, ensure all sections, including the conclusion, are fully articulated and finished.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'Moreover', and 'On the other hand' are used effectively to signal transitions between ideas. However, the referencing is occasionally slightly mechanical, and the abrupt ending of the essay disrupts the flow of the final paragraph. Despite these issues, the progression of ideas is generally clear and easy to follow throughout the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are some good collocations like 'better job opportunities' and 'standard of living'. However, there are minor errors in word choice and form, such as 'pe only promoting' (likely a typo for 'be') and 'opt for another countries' (should be 'other countries'). The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the sophistication or precision required for higher band scores. Expanding the range of academic vocabulary would improve the overall quality.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'find job' (missing article), 'mainly doctor and engineer' (pluralization needed), and 'He also was accommodated' (awkward phrasing). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the incomplete final sentence is a significant grammatical and structural flaw. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage would be beneficial.
