Student answer (Band 6.5)

In modern times, the issue of doctors and engineers, should be required to work has become highly controversial. There are those who believe that doctors and engineers, should be required to work in the country where they did their training. However, others said that they should be free to work in another country if they wish. In this essay I will examine both sides of the argument and provide my overall opinion

Generally speaking, there are two main reason why people believe that t professionals, such as doctors and engineers, should be required to work in the country where they did their training. Perhaps the main reason why people are in favor of this idea is because they can help their countries people and they can earn money in their society. Moreover, if doctors and engineers leave immediately, the country does not get the benefit of its investment, because of which government lost more money.

Despite these arguments, there is also a case for the idea that they should be free to work in another country if they wish. There is a main reason why people think that this is a good idea is because everyone should have the freedom to choose where they work. People have the right to decide their own career and future. Secondly, working abroad helps professionals gain better experience and skills. Because, they can learn advanced technology and methods, which may benefit their home country if they return later.

In conclusion, it must be said that doctors and engineers, should be required to work has become a complex issue with no easy solutions. Having considered both sides of the issue, I would argue hey should be free to work in another country if they wish because, freedom of choice is a basic human right, and people should decide their own careers.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the economic argument for the home country and the individual's right to freedom of choice. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the point about 'advanced technology' is mentioned but not fully explored with specific examples. The position is consistent throughout the essay, which is a strength. To reach a higher band, you should aim to expand your supporting points with more detailed explanations or concrete examples to ensure the argument feels fully developed rather than just stated.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover', 'Despite these arguments', and 'In conclusion'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly repetitive. For example, the transition 'There is a main reason why people think that this is a good idea is because...' is grammatically awkward and disrupts the flow. Additionally, some sentences within paragraphs lack smooth logical links. Improving the variety of your linking words and ensuring that each sentence flows naturally into the next will help improve the overall cohesion of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use topic-specific terms like 'professionals', 'investment', and 'career'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on simple phrasing. There are also minor issues with word choice, such as 'their countries people' instead of 'their country's citizens'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and collocations. You should also focus on avoiding repetitive phrasing, as seen in the frequent use of 'doctors and engineers' and 'work in another country'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with punctuation and sentence construction. For example, the opening sentence contains an unnecessary comma after 'engineers', and the phrase 'because of which government lost more money' is grammatically incorrect. There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and article usage throughout the text. To achieve a higher score, focus on reducing these frequent errors and ensuring that your complex sentences are constructed accurately. Proofreading for basic punctuation and verb tense consistency would be highly beneficial.
