Student answer (Band 6.5)

I believe that professionals, such as doctors and engineers, should be able free to work in another country if they wish. Because i wouldn't like my freedom of choice to be taken away from me or anyone. Also, everyone deserves the service that they wish for. For example, if a doctor is required to only practice his profession in the country he was trained in, that would be unfair for both the doctor and patients from another country. What if the doctor wanted to practice medicine abroad and help people from all over the world. At the same time, the patient has the right to get the treatment he wishes for from the doctor he thinks is best. And that doctor might be from a foreign country. That's why i think the freedom of choice to practice their profession anywhere they want should be given to those professionals.

Other people don't agree with that statement. They argue that these professionals became what they are because of the country that they got trained in, and they owe it to that country. So they should be required to only practice their work in this country. I can see why they think that, for example a doctor might be trained in his country for many years and also he might be trained for free as a lot of countries support their students by offering free trainings to develop the best professionals. And after all of what the country gave to this doctor, he decides to go abroad and practice his work there. That sounds unfair to his country.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you provide a personal perspective on freedom of choice and a counter-argument regarding the 'debt' owed to a country, the points could be extended further with more specific examples or deeper analysis. For instance, the discussion on 'free training' is a good starting point, but it could be expanded to consider the economic impact on developing nations. The response is balanced, but the depth of argumentation is more characteristic of a Band 6.0 level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into two clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'For example' and 'At the same time' are used effectively, but there is a lack of more sophisticated linking words to connect sentences and ideas more fluidly. The transition between the two main viewpoints is abrupt. To improve, try using a wider variety of cohesive devices such as 'consequently,' 'furthermore,' or 'conversely' to better signal the relationship between your arguments.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'practice medicine' and 'professionals.' However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on basic vocabulary. There are also minor issues with word choice, such as 'free trainings' (training is an uncountable noun). To reach a higher band, you should aim to incorporate more precise academic collocations and less common lexical items to demonstrate a more sophisticated command of the language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as the use of 'i' instead of 'I,' and issues with subject-verb agreement or article usage (e.g., 'a doctor might be trained in his country... and also he might be trained for free'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with sentence fragments. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic errors and try to incorporate a wider variety of complex structures, such as conditional sentences or passive voice, with greater accuracy.
