Student answer (Band 7.0)
It is the belief of some people that expert professionals, such as engineers and doctors, need to serve their own country where they were trained, whilst others think that they should have the liberty to choose the country where they would like to work. It is my personal opinion that while it is understandable to expect from the professionals to work in their own country, at the end of the day, they must be free-willed to choose their own workplace.
On one hand, professionals like doctors and engineers spent their academic life to build their career on a certain expertise. Furthermore, it is necessary for them to receive special training in order to have adequate knowledge in their field. Some people think that after all their study and hands-on experiences, it is only right for them to stay and serve the people of the country where they got their education from. They ponder over this idea from moral and responsibility's point of view. Although it should not be forceful, I think some of the professionals ought to stay in their country from where they were trained to serve the people as well as to prevent brain drain from the country.
On the other hand, it is said that man is the master of his own free will. Because they studied from a country, it is not right to be required to work in the very same country for the sake of morality. If the doctors and engineers are required to serve in a country where they don't want to work, they will never be able to serve that land properly against their will. For example, a doctor I know wants to shift abroad and start practicing there. But his family wants him to serve here in my country which caused dispute between him and his family. So, he couldn't concentrate on his job in here. For this reason, I personally feel that the professionals who want to explore their career in another country should have complete liberty to do that.
In conclusion, my personal opinion is that every country should have a quota that a certain number of experts must stay in the country and work there. But, they should be required to do so if they do not want to stay and work in that country.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the concept of 'brain drain' and the importance of individual autonomy. However, the development is slightly uneven; the conclusion introduces a new, somewhat contradictory idea about a 'quota' system that was not previously discussed or fully explained, which weakens the overall position. To reach a higher band, ensure that the conclusion only synthesises the points already made rather than introducing new policy suggestions. The position is clear, but the logical flow in the final paragraph could be more consistent with the earlier arguments.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organised into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices such as 'On one hand', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the referencing in the third paragraph (e.g., 'a doctor I know') is a bit informal for an academic task. The progression of ideas is generally smooth, but the final paragraph lacks a strong link to the previous arguments, making the transition to the 'quota' suggestion feel abrupt. Improving the sophistication of linking phrases would enhance the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate and allows for the expression of ideas with reasonable precision. Phrases like 'expert professionals', 'hands-on experiences', and 'brain drain' are used appropriately. There are some minor issues with collocation and word choice, such as 'free-willed to choose' (should be 'free to choose') and 'shift abroad' (which is slightly informal; 'emigrate' or 'relocate' would be better). The range is sufficient for the task, but more precise, academic vocabulary would help elevate the score. The student avoids repetition, demonstrating a decent range of synonyms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'the country where they got their education from' (redundant 'from') and 'it is not right to be required' (slightly awkward phrasing). Punctuation is generally accurate, though some sentences could be more concisely structured. While there are errors, they do not impede communication. To improve, the student should focus on reducing redundant prepositions and refining the use of passive voice to sound more natural and academic.
