Student answer (Band 6.0)
Certain individuals think that high demanded occupations like doctors and engineers must have to find jobs in their native country, whereas others argue that they have right to work in foreign countries, if they want. This essay will discuss both perspectives before presenting a reasoned opinion.
First and foremost, one of the prominent reasons professionals should work in their own nation is that supported their education. To explain it, they contend that requiring individuals to work in their home country ensures that the skills and knowledge gained during training are directly applied to address local needs. This approach is a way to address shortages of skilled professionals in many developing regions. For example,
On the other hand, supporters of international mobility argue that allowing professionals to work in foreign countries can broaden their skill sets and knowledge. The expertise gained abroad can ultimately be utilized to benefit their home country upon their return. Moreover, working abroad often presents opportunities for starting one’s own business, and may offer better compensation relative to their skills and qualifications. To exemplify,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response is significantly under the 250-word minimum requirement, which severely limits the development of ideas. While the essay introduces both perspectives, the arguments are left incomplete. For instance, the paragraph regarding local needs ends abruptly with 'For example,' without providing the necessary supporting evidence. Similarly, the 'In my opinion' section is entirely blank. Because the task is not fully addressed and the ideas are underdeveloped due to the length, the response fails to meet the criteria for a higher band. To improve, you must ensure all parts of the prompt are fully explored with concrete examples and a clear, stated position.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay uses basic cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost' and 'On the other hand' to signal the structure, which helps the reader follow the intended flow. However, because the paragraphs are incomplete, the overall progression is stunted. The logical sequence is present in the introduction and the start of the body paragraphs, but the lack of completion makes the text feel fragmented. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final paragraph is missing entirely. To improve, focus on completing your thoughts within each paragraph and using a wider variety of linking words to connect sentences more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, using terms like 'prominent reasons,' 'international mobility,' and 'compensation.' However, there are some awkward phrasings, such as 'high demanded occupations' (should be 'high-demand') and 'they have right to work' (missing an article). The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on fairly standard academic collocations. To achieve a higher band, you should aim to incorporate more precise, less common vocabulary and ensure that your word choices are grammatically accurate in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'that supported their education' (missing a subject, e.g., 'that supported their education') and 'they have right to work' (missing 'the'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall quality. The sentence structure is generally functional, but the lack of length prevents the display of a wider range of complex grammatical forms. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will help improve your accuracy.
