Some people believe that professionals, such as doctors and engineers, should be required to work in the country where they did their training. Others believe they should be free to work in another country if they wish.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Some individuals have differing views on professionals like doctors and engineers, is needed to work in the country where they did their training but others suggest that they should they be free to work at other countries they wish to go. My opinion is that professionals should be set free to go to countries that they preferred the most.

Professionals should be working on countries they pursue after their training. Working in other countries will open up a person's view and though of how different countries cope with problems and experience a different culture, people and even language used. Many people are not exposed to other countries and did not know how the other world looks like, it is best for them to explore rather than keeping them in the country that they are already used to. For instance, a credit transfer in the university life allows people to explore the other world, so do working when they grow old.

Some people implies that professionals needs to work at the countries they did training and this may reduce competitions they have to faced with natives of the other countries. For instance, doctors that studied in Malaysia are not able to do their housemanship in UK due to the prioritisation law that was newly acted in the early 2026. The reasons for the law to be acted is due to students having to compete with foreigners for the limited seats they have to do their houseman.

To conclude, I personally thinks that professionals should be set free to do their jobs at anywhere they like despite having differing beliefs of what they are required to do.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention the benefits of working abroad, such as cultural exposure, the explanation is brief. The counter-argument regarding the protection of local jobs is relevant, but the example provided (the 2026 Malaysia-UK law) is slightly confusing in its phrasing and could be better integrated. To improve, ensure that each paragraph fully explores the 'why' behind your points rather than just stating them. The position is consistent throughout, which is a strength.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'For instance' and 'To conclude', to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the connection between ideas is slightly abrupt. For example, the transition between the benefits of working abroad and the university credit transfer example could be smoother. Additionally, the use of referencing is occasionally unclear, which affects the overall progression of your argument. Improving the variety of linking words would help the essay read more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary, such as 'housemanship' and 'prioritisation law'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choices and minor errors, such as 'though of' instead of 'thought of' and 'set free' which is slightly informal in this context. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and academic vocabulary. Avoid repetitive phrasing and try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms for common words like 'work' or 'countries'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('Some people implies', 'professionals needs') and awkward phrasing ('is needed to work', 'should they be free to work at other countries they wish to go'). Punctuation is generally functional, but some sentences are run-on or lack necessary clarity. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and refining your use of prepositions. Proofreading for these common errors will significantly enhance the accuracy of your writing.
