Student answer (Band 5.5)

While many people believe that highly educated professionals, such as doctors and engineers should provide and work in the country where they did their training or graduated from. I personally believe along with other people believe that one should have a free will to choose which country they want to work in.

On the one hand, it is true to say that many countries such as India want their doctors, engineers and lawyers to work in the country, help build the future generation and framework of the country as well. Firstly, highly qualified individuals such as doctors and engineers are a key aspect for growth of the country. They contribute greatly towards the society fundamentally as well as economically. In addition, they play an important role in building the infrastructure of the country along with inspiring youth to pursue their dream to become accomplished individual and contribute with their skill to the country. Moreover, people believe that one should give back to the same country that shaped them into a professional of a certain degree.

On the other hand, it cannot be denied that achieving such degrees require a lot of hardship ,determination and time. Firstly, people believe that engineers and doctors have worked hard enough to choose where or which country they want to work in. In many country for an instance India, there is cut-throat competition in the job market, pay scale is low compared to other countries and lifestyle is poor. This naturally results in qualified people choosing to move to a different country where they are paid good salaries along with better lifestyle.

In conclusion, Although many people believe working the country where they completed their training would benefit the country greatly. In my opinion these acclaimed should be given their own choice to choose which country they want to work in.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and clearly states a personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. The ideas are relevant, such as the economic contribution of professionals and the personal right to seek better working conditions. However, the development is somewhat repetitive. For instance, the points about doctors and engineers are repeated across paragraphs without significant new depth. To reach a higher band, you should ensure each paragraph introduces a distinct, well-supported argument rather than restating the same concepts. The position is clear throughout, but the supporting arguments could be more nuanced to fully explore the implications of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a specific focus. You use cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Firstly', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is slightly disjointed. For example, the opening sentence is a fragment, which disrupts the logical progression of the introduction. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'people believe'. Improving the variety of your cohesive links and ensuring each sentence flows naturally into the next would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'cut-throat competition', 'acclaimed', and 'infrastructure'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'acclaimed' is used incorrectly to refer to the professionals themselves, and 'pay scale is low' is slightly unnatural compared to 'remuneration is low'. There is also some repetition of basic vocabulary. To improve, focus on using more precise academic collocations and synonyms to avoid repeating phrases like 'work in the country' or 'doctors and engineers' multiple times throughout the text.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with sentence fragments and punctuation. For instance, the first paragraph contains a sentence fragment: 'While many people believe... graduated from.' This is a significant error that affects readability. There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'In many country' instead of 'In many countries'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on sentence boundaries and basic grammatical accuracy will be key to improvement.
