Student answer (Band 6.0)
Being wealthy provides people with financial security and enables them to enjoy a higher standard of living. However, some people believe that wealth also creates opportunities to help others. I agree with this view because rich individuals are in a stronger position to support people at both individual and community levels.
Being rich increases people’s access to many kinds of resources and provides them with greater freedom in most areas of life. This makes them capable of helping those in need and allows them to improve the quality of life of others. Wealthy people can provide assistance in several ways, such as funding a child’s education, creating employment opportunities or paying for the medical treatment of a cancer patient. For instance, financially supporting an unemployed person to start a small business can have a lasting positive impact on both the individual and their family.
Moreover, financially privileged individuals can contribute to social development by investing in philanthropic projects. They can donate money to improve local infrastructure or establish charitable hospitals and community schools. In this way, their support can benefit an entire community. For example, building a small charitable hospital in a disadvantaged area could significantly improve access to healthcare. Another valuable contribution would be the introduction of microfinance schemes that allow unemployed people to establish businesses and support their families.
In conclusion, wealthy people can play a crucial role in improving the lives of others. They can provide direct assistance to individuals and contribute to the wider development of communities. Therefore, I believe that wealth gives people not only personal comfort but also a valuable opportunity to support those in need.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 2.0
The response is completely off-topic. The prompt asks for a discussion on whether professionals (doctors and engineers) should be required to work in their home country versus having the freedom to work abroad. Instead, the essay discusses the general benefits of wealth and philanthropy. Because the student failed to address the specific prompt provided, the task achievement score is severely impacted. While the writing is coherent and grammatically sound, it does not fulfill the requirements of the task at all.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is well-structured with clear paragraphing and logical progression. Ideas are linked effectively using cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'For instance', and 'In conclusion'. Each paragraph has a clear central topic, and the flow of ideas is smooth. Despite the content being irrelevant to the prompt, the internal organization of the text demonstrates a high level of control over coherence and cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
The vocabulary used is varied and appropriate for an academic context. Phrases such as 'financial security', 'philanthropic projects', 'disadvantaged area', and 'microfinance schemes' show a good range of lexical items. The student demonstrates an ability to use topic-specific vocabulary with precision. There are no significant errors in word choice or collocation that impede meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
The essay displays a good range of complex sentence structures, including conditional-like structures and relative clauses. The grammar is highly accurate, with very few errors. Punctuation is used correctly throughout, and the control over verb tenses and subject-verb agreement is consistent. The writing is fluent and demonstrates a high level of grammatical competence.
