Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some individuals argue that highly qualified people, such as doctors and engineers should work in their own countries; however, others believe that they are free to work in overseas. This essay will discuss both perspectives before presenting my opinion.

On the one hand, there are several advantages of professionals working in their homeland. First of all, people will get the chance to spend some quality time with their friends and families. Moreover, it can save their accommodation and food charges while living in joint family system. Secondly, the government had invested a lot of funds on these highly qualified people by giving them scholarships, so the authority want to get in return the amount spend on them through taxes and revenue. Thirdly, there would be shortage of doctors and engineers in the remote areas. Furthermore the hospitals will lack good experienced doctors that can affect its reputation. The government had to hire a lot of people to fill the vacant spaces.

On the other hand, opponents opine that people have a full authority to choose their working place. They are independent to make their career choices and avail the best opportunity for the betterment of their lifestyles. People could earn high amount of money as compared to their own country. In that way, they can improve their living standards and financially support their families. For instance, nowadays, the rate of immigrants seeking jobs abroad significantly rises to a high level.

In my opinion, people have a right to choose any country, where they want to work. The governments can offer attractive salary packages to highly skilled people in order to make them stay in their state.

In conclusion, some believe that highly educated people should continue to do job in their country, while others argue that people can independently choose their working country. From my perspective, I strongly believe people are not bound to stay in their nation when they have a good opportunity abroad.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both perspectives and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the economic argument regarding government investment and the personal freedom to seek better opportunities. However, some points are under-developed; for example, the mention of 'joint family system' is a bit tangential to the core argument of professional training. The conclusion clearly restates the position, but the development of the arguments could be more nuanced to reach a higher band. Overall, the response is well-structured and directly answers the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand', 'Secondly', and 'Furthermore', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'the authority want to get in return', where the plural/singular agreement is inconsistent. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different viewpoints. To improve, you should focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices to create a smoother flow between sentences and ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'highly qualified', 'scholarships', and 'immigrants'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'work in overseas' (should be 'work overseas') and 'the authority want to get in return the amount spend' (should be 'spent'). The range is sufficient to communicate, but lacks the sophistication and precision required for a higher band score. Focusing on collocations and more precise academic terminology would be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('the authority want', 'the government had to hire') and article usage. Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'the rate of immigrants seeking jobs abroad significantly rises to a high level'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To improve, you should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and ensuring consistent tense usage when discussing general truths or hypothetical situations.
