Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you address both sides of the argument, the discussion is underdeveloped and lacks depth. The conclusion is incomplete, cutting off mid-sentence, which means your position is not clearly stated or maintained throughout the essay. To improve, ensure you fully explore each viewpoint with specific examples and provide a clear, finished conclusion that synthesizes your opinion. The current length prevents a full development of the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks clear paragraphing, as the text is presented in a way that makes it difficult to follow the logical progression of ideas. While there are some cohesive devices used, such as 'Furthermore' and 'On the other hand', the transitions between sentences are often repetitive and mechanical. The lack of a proper introduction and a finished conclusion disrupts the overall flow of the argument. To improve, use clear paragraph breaks for each main idea and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence to guide the reader through your reasoning.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'help', 'grow', and 'work'. There are instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'asset to the economy' and 'get advantage from them'. While the meaning is generally clear, there is a lack of precision and variety in word choice. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more academic collocations and topic-specific vocabulary related to economics and professional migration, such as 'human capital', 'brain drain', or 'remittances'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains several grammatical errors, particularly regarding sentence structure and punctuation. Many sentences are run-on, such as the second paragraph, which makes them difficult to parse. There are also issues with article usage ('the economy', 'the society') and subject-verb agreement. While you attempt some complex structures, they are often faulty or lack the necessary punctuation to be grammatically sound. Focusing on shorter, more controlled sentences and proofreading for basic errors like missing articles or incorrect verb forms would greatly improve your score.
