Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the recent years, the need for professional doctors and engineers are quite significant worldwide. A number of people believe that professional doctor and engineers should only work in the country where they have received their training, while others believe they should be free to work in another country if they want. Although there is some importance in the first statement but i do agree with the latter view with my full heart.

On the one hand, when a individual receive years of training to become a professional in any sort of sector from a country, he is believed to stay in that country and provide his professional advocacy to that country's people. It is also believed that the country provides those professionals with a lot of opportunity in their career. For example, a dentist from Bangladesh went to the USA for his training to become a professional at his sector but people from USA think that he should stay there and help people as he was trained in their country.

On the other hand, a person from a poor or under-developed country might go to developed countries for higher education or training to become more advanced in his or her job sector, as there are not many training or programs available in his or her own country. So, people from underdeveloped countries go abroad for many training purposes and after they complete their training they return to their home country and serve the people. For instance, a dentist from a underdeveloped country like Bhutan might go to any developed country and do his/her training to become a professional doctor and return to Nepal to give professional advices to his/her patients.

In my opinion, a person should be free to choose where he wants to work, that can be the country where he received his education or it can be any other country where he/she is getting the optimum opportunity for their career.

In conclusion, people should have their own free will to work any country they wish to work in and they should choose where they want to spent their professional career.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive and lacks depth. For instance, the example of the dentist from Bangladesh is slightly confusing in its logic, and the argument regarding underdeveloped countries is a bit circular. While the position is clear throughout, the supporting arguments could be more nuanced to reach a higher band. The essay covers the requirements well, but the supporting examples are not fully exploited to demonstrate a sophisticated understanding of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two viewpoints. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. The referencing is generally clear, though the connection between the dentist example and the broader argument about professional freedom could be more tightly integrated to improve the overall cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There is some attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'professional advocacy', 'under-developed', and 'optimum opportunity'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of slightly unnatural collocations, such as 'provide his professional advocacy' or 'do his/her training'. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey meaning, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. Improving the variety of synonyms and collocations would enhance the quality of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('the need for professional doctors and engineers are') and article usage ('a individual', 'a underdeveloped country'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors in sentence construction. The control of complex structures is inconsistent, and while these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. More attention to proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would be beneficial.
