Student answer (Band 5.5)

Several individuals believe that qualified individuals, for instance doctors and engineers, should give their services in the country from where the did their training. Opponents argue they should have their own will to work where they want. This has become a heated argument in this contemporary society. Where they should give their services this will be dicussed in this essay.

To begin with, According to individuals highly qualified individuals are the assets of government. Goverment budget is spent on them letting them go will be awful for the country development. These professionals are the future of country. The consequences of losing them are detrimental. Goverment should use their abilities for the development of the country. This is the actual secret of success of developed countries such as United States of America in 1917 they issued an visa specificaly for skilled and qualified workers. These individuals are the reason why the are know as the land of opportunities.

On the other hand, Opponents argue if a person move abroad and he had studied and paid his fees on his own. He should be free to go wherever he want rather than being captivated in a country he did not want to live such as a person migrate to Spain top get a degree in finance. When he complete his degree. He should be not be isolated on a foreign land just because he

was graduated from there.

As far as i am concerned it depends on the circumstances if the government funds are spent on them they should be in their countries.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the prompt. However, the development of ideas is limited. The arguments regarding government investment and personal freedom are introduced but lack depth and specific, well-explained examples. The mention of the United States in 1917 is historically unclear and does not effectively support the point about skilled workers. The conclusion is abrupt and does not fully synthesize the arguments presented. To improve, you should aim to expand your supporting points with more logical reasoning and clearer, more relevant examples to demonstrate a deeper understanding of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the flow between and within them is often disjointed. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with' and 'On the other hand', they are sometimes used mechanically or incorrectly. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the connection between the US example and the main argument is weak. The final paragraph is very short and lacks a clear transition from the previous points. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus would significantly enhance the logical progression of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'captivated in a country' (likely meaning 'trapped' or 'bound') and 'give their services' (which is repetitive). Some spelling errors, such as 'Goverment' and 'specificaly', are present. To achieve a higher score, you should focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and collocations, and ensure that you proofread your work to eliminate basic spelling mistakes that detract from the professional tone of the essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the reason why the are know'), incorrect verb tenses, and missing articles. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some sentence fragments and run-on sentences, such as 'When he complete his degree. He should be not be isolated...'. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and using complex structures more accurately. Regular practice with proofreading will help you identify and correct these recurring errors.
