Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some individuals assert that professionals including doctors and engineers should be free to get a job in another country if they wish. Nevertheless, there are those who believe that professionals should be required to work in the country where they did their training. In this essay, I will discuss both views first before I give my own opinion.

This days, there are those who think that professionals should work in the country where they did their training. However, it may cause some conflict since not all students studying in a University is a citizen, and that international students are very common nowadays. In addition, some countries provide low salary and it is not beneficial to hardworking employees and professionals.

Furthermore, professionals should be able to choose where to start their career after training. They deserve to work in a foreign country since most of them give high amount of salary depending on career taken. Professionals should not be limited to the country where they had their degree, since working is already a start for their future, they should not be limited and that their knowledge and skills could be enhance if they develop international experience.

In my opinion, professionals should be able to work in other country not only limited to the area where they got their training, since career choice is personal, people should have the freedom to work in other parts of the world, since most countries provide more benefits.

To conclude, professionals should not be required to work in a country where they did their training since they have personal decisions and choices, and that would the freedom to work in different parts of the world.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the point about international students is mentioned but not fully explored in relation to the requirement to work in the country of training. The arguments regarding salary and professional development are relevant but remain quite general. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific examples or deeper analysis of the implications of these policies, such as the 'brain drain' phenomenon or the ethical obligations of state-funded education. The conclusion is a bit repetitive and lacks a strong summary of the main points discussed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Furthermore', 'In addition', and 'To conclude' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and some transitions feel forced. For example, the jump between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear; in the final paragraph, the phrase 'and that would the freedom to work' is grammatically broken, which disrupts the logical flow of your concluding thought. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'professionals', 'career', and 'international experience'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on simple phrasing. For example, 'give high amount of salary' is unnatural; 'offer competitive remuneration' or 'provide higher salaries' would be more precise. There are also some minor errors in word choice, such as 'career taken' instead of 'chosen field'. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and avoid repeating the same words throughout the essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the quality of the writing. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('not all students... is a citizen'), missing articles ('in other country'), and awkward phrasing ('knowledge and skills could be enhance'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence structure in the conclusion is incomplete. To achieve a higher band, you need to demonstrate better control over complex sentence forms and reduce the frequency of basic grammatical slips, ensuring that your verb tenses and pluralization are consistently accurate.
