Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The essay addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion in the introduction. However, the response is incomplete, as it ends abruptly mid-sentence in the conclusion. While the main ideas regarding government investment and personal career growth are relevant, the development of these points is somewhat superficial. The lack of a finished conclusion significantly impacts the task response, as the final summary of the argument is missing. To reach a higher band, ensure that all parts of the prompt are fully addressed and that the essay is brought to a logical, complete conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas from the introduction to the body paragraphs. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Moreover', and 'First and foremost' are used to link ideas. However, the abrupt ending of the essay disrupts the overall coherence. Additionally, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. To improve, focus on ensuring that the conclusion effectively synthesizes the main points discussed and that the flow between sentences is more natural and less reliant on simple signposting words.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at more academic phrasing like 'foster in the development' and 'global exposure'. However, there are several instances of awkward collocations and word choice errors, such as 'highly respective professionals' (should be 'respected'), 'serve for their nations' (should be 'serve their nations'), and 'at abroad' (should be 'abroad'). These errors occasionally impede the precision of the message. Expanding your range of vocabulary and focusing on correct word combinations will help you achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('it enhance the development') and incorrect preposition usage ('serve for the nation's development'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly in the final paragraph. The incomplete sentence at the end also negatively affects the grammatical assessment. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic errors and practice using more complex sentence structures with greater accuracy.
