Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

There has been a growing debate that professionals, such as doctors and engineers, must work in the same country where they gained their training or that they should have the freedom to work in any other country they wish. Personally, I believe that these jobs especially are worldwide required , therefore they should be completely free to work in any region they please. I will discuss both opinions and provide reasons for each.

To begin with, professionals have jobs that are needed among the whole world. Requiring them to work in the country where they trained might be advantageous for the country but not necessarily for the doer of the job. A country, for instance, could benefit from its human competencies, using their knowledge and qualifications to develop and earn a high place among other countries. However, the doers of these professional jobs may not be treated as they should be. That is to say, governments may not be providing them with the appropriate salaries that match their significant, hard-working jobs.

Nevertheless, their desire to work in other countries could be urged by dreams for a stable and quiet future life and a job-security that keeps them attached to their jobs without being concerned or threatened by losing it unexpectedly. Additionally, most of countries that require professionals from outside usually appreciate them and provide them with high salaries and long-term contracts, which represent the ideal opportunity for those with professional jobs. There might be some drawbacks in the beginning such as lonliness or some difficulties adapting to the new environment, but they are going to outcome them.

In conclusion, the advantages of working in another country outweigh the benefits of working in the same country they trained in. I firmly believe that having a career in a different country provide professionals with their dream life that usually their home countries might not provide.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the economic benefits for the home country versus the personal career aspirations of the professionals. However, the development is somewhat limited; for example, the argument regarding 'loneliness' is mentioned but not fully explored. The position is consistent throughout, but the essay would benefit from more specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. The response is well-structured and directly answers the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with,' 'Nevertheless,' and 'In conclusion,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different arguments. While the progression of ideas is clear, the flow between sentences could be smoother in some places, particularly in the second body paragraph where the transition from job security to the challenges of moving could be more refined.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'human competencies' and 'significant,' but some word choices are slightly unnatural or imprecise, such as 'doer of the job' or 'outcome them' (instead of 'overcome'). While the range is sufficient to convey meaning, it lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. Spelling is generally accurate, and the vocabulary is sufficient to discuss the topic without causing confusion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'most of countries' (should be 'most countries') and 'provide professionals with their dream life that usually their home countries might not provide' (awkward phrasing). Subject-verb agreement and article usage are occasionally inconsistent. However, these errors do not impede communication. The control of grammar is generally good, but more variety in complex structures and greater accuracy in basic grammar would be needed to move into the higher bands.
