Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some people believe that professionals such as doctor, engineer, etc., should be to work in the country where they did their training, while some argue that should have freedom to work whenever they choose to serve their services.

In my opinion, in several countries, government spend huge amount to educate who want to pursue medical and engineering field for their bright future, and award them enormous scholarship and give them accommodation and stipend to bearing their daily expenses. As a result, after completing their higher studies, they should have to work and serve their services to that country from where they achieved milestone, and now giving them back to help their citizen. Moreover, if they would go some other countries to get the job, in that way, there will be a shortage of people to manage projects and infrastructure, and run local hospital and private as well. In that way, the nation will face a huge lack in these fields.

While on the other hand, I believe that everyone should have the freedom to go anywhere to serve their services where their expectation meet, and is their totally right where they feel safe and secure. Additionally, if any local student apply for further jobs to skill up their services, so whatever they earn, they will send their money to their family. This will help build a strong economy, and the nation will start to progress.

In conclusion, both views have their own point to support. In my opinion, everyone should have the freedom to control their life, and no one has the right to strictly control their self-freedom. If any individual wants to stay where they graduated, they freely, or if someone has offered well-known package for their bright and exceptional future, they can go. Therefore, while it is true that the nation invested in their high education, I strongly believe that this investment will eventually benefit the home country in one form or another.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both perspectives and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the economic argument regarding government investment and the personal right to freedom of movement. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat repetitive and lacks depth. For instance, the argument about 'remittances' is mentioned but not fully explored to show how it balances the loss of skilled labor. The position is clear, but the transition between the two viewpoints could be more nuanced to better demonstrate a balanced discussion. Overall, the response meets the requirements of the task but remains at a general level of analysis.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Moreover,' 'While on the other hand,' and 'In conclusion,' which help guide the reader. However, some of the linking is mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'In that way, the nation will face a huge lack in these fields.' Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the use of 'they' when referring to government investment or students. While the progression of ideas is generally logical, the flow between sentences could be smoother to achieve a higher band score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'infrastructure,' 'stipend,' and 'remittances' (implied). However, there are several instances of awkward word choices and collocations, such as 'serve their services,' 'achieved milestone,' and 'skill up their services.' These errors occasionally make the writing sound unnatural. To improve, the student should focus on learning common collocations for professional and academic contexts rather than relying on literal translations or repetitive phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the accuracy of the writing. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'government spend'), missing articles (e.g., 'in medical and engineering field'), and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'should be to work'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. The student needs to focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading for articles and verb forms to improve the overall accuracy of their complex sentences.
