Student answer (Band 5.5)

Many people agree professionals like doctors and engineers should work in the country where they completed their training. On the other hand others believe they should work in any country they wish.

Some people believe professionals should work at the same country where they completed their training. One important reason is the difference of different cultures in different countries. For example, a teacher who teaches German language and she was raised in Germany. The best place for her to work would be Germany because of the language difference in many countries. This is one of the reason people tend to believe that professionals should be required to work in their own country.

Furthermore, Some people also believe that professionals should be free to work and pursue their career in another country because there are many countries that demand different professionals. For example, there is a need of health care department in Canada so they are hiring a lot of professionals to fulfil the need in the country.

I agree that all of the professionals like professors, doctors or engineers should be able to work in any country they wished, because I believe that if they have worked hard to become professionals they should have their own choices to make. At some countries there may not be the need for some category so this would make many students opt for career that will be in high demand in their country instead of pursuing what they are interested in.

In conclusion, many people are of the opinion that professionals should be able to work in different countries while others believe to be limited to the country from where they completed their training. I believe they should be able to work anywhere i the world because of the fluctuations in different sectors of job markets.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. The example regarding the German teacher is not entirely relevant to the core issue of professional mobility, and the explanation of why countries hire foreign professionals is brief. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed reasoning and clearer examples that directly support your arguments. The position is consistent, but the supporting points lack the depth required for a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices like 'Furthermore' and 'In conclusion,' but the transitions between sentences are sometimes mechanical or repetitive. For instance, the opening of the second and third paragraphs is very similar. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the use of 'they' in the third paragraph, which could be more precisely linked to the noun it replaces. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks range and precision. You rely on basic terms like 'work,' 'people,' and 'countries' repeatedly. There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'difference of different cultures' and 'at some countries,' which should be 'in some countries.' To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to labor markets, globalization, and professional development. The current range is sufficient to communicate your meaning but does not demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'she was raised' (fragment), 'one of the reason' (should be 'reasons'), and 'opt for career' (missing article). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are occasional slips. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they are frequent enough to limit the score. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, the correct use of articles, and ensuring that all sentences are complete and grammatically sound.
