Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people argue that professionals such as doctors and engineers, should be required to work in the county where they received their training. This essay will discuss both views before explaining why in my opinion professional should be free to work abroad.
One the one land, requiring professionals to work in the county where they were trained can benefit the county financially and socially. Government often spend a considerable amount of public money on universities, medical schools and professional training. Therefore, it seems reasonable that graduates should contribute to the society that supported them their education. This is particular important in developing countries where there may already be a shortage of doctors, engineers and other skilled workers.
Trained professionals leave immediately after completing their education essential sectors may suffer from a lack of qualified staff.
On the other hand, professionals should have the right to choose where they want to work. People may move abroad for better salaries, improved working conditions, advanced technology or greater career opportunities. For example, a doctor may decide to work in another country because it provides access to better medical facilities and allow them to develop specialized skill. Moreover, professionals who move overseas can still contribute to this home country by sending money to their families.
In my opinion, professionals should not be forced to remain in the country where they were trained. Although governments have legitimate interest in retained skilled workers, then could be unfair to away. In conclusion, while retaining trained professionals can help a country maintain essential services and recover its educational investment, individuals should ultimately have the freedom to decide where they work. Creating attractive working conditions is a more effective solution than imposing compulsory restrictions.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed, particularly the arguments regarding government investment and individual freedom. However, there is a significant structural issue in the second paragraph where a sentence fragment ('Trained professionals leave immediately...') appears to be missing a conjunction or subject, which slightly hinders the development of that specific point. Despite this, the overall position is consistent, and the arguments are logically extended. To reach a higher band, ensure that all sentences are complete and that every point is fully connected to the main argument.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to guide the reader. However, there are some minor mechanical errors in cohesion, such as the phrase 'One the one land' (a typo for 'hand') and some awkward transitions between sentences. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different viewpoints. The progression of ideas is generally clear, though the flow is occasionally interrupted by grammatical slips that make the relationship between some sentences slightly less smooth than required for a higher band.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, covering topics like 'financial', 'socially', 'specialized skill', and 'compulsory restrictions'. There is an attempt to use less common vocabulary, which is generally successful. However, there are several noticeable errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'county' instead of 'country', 'the society' (should be 'society'), and 'retained' instead of 'retaining'. These errors do not impede communication, but they demonstrate a lack of precision. To improve, focus on proofreading for common word-choice errors and ensuring that collocations are used accurately in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'Government often spend' (subject-verb agreement), 'supported them their education' (missing preposition), and 'then could be unfair' (incorrect pronoun usage). The sentence fragment in the second paragraph also impacts the overall accuracy. While the meaning is always clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Increasing the variety of error-free complex structures and focusing on basic subject-verb agreement would significantly improve the score.
