Student answer (Band 5.5)

Doctors and Engineers are the most respected professions globally. Many people believe that they should work in the country where they completed their training, while, some people argue that they should be free to work in other countries if they wish. I strongly believe that this a matter of personal choice, they can practice in whichever country they want to, as working in the same country they completed training would make them more perfectionist, whereas, working in another country would expose them to the different methodologies and increase their knowledge and experience.

Doctors and Engineers, require a lot of training, practice and patience to achieve their goal and become master in their fields. Many people choose to study abroad, in a country where the best quality education is provided, after completing their studies, many people choose to stay in the same country and start working, whereas, some choose to move back to their hometowns or different country to start work. For example, Many Indian every year, move to USA, Germany, Canada for their degrees and come back once their education is completed to start working in India.

Some people believe that they should work where their education is completed for several reasons. Firstly, they are gaining knowledge according to the requirement of that country, which might or might not be applicable or useful for the other countries. Secondly, training language and syllabus also differs as per different countries.

In summary, Doctors and Engineers profession is universal with never ending knowledge so at the end it still remains a personal choice of the individual that which country do they want to work in.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal position. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention that training in one country might be more relevant to that specific region, the explanation remains superficial. The example provided regarding Indian students moving to the USA and returning is relevant but could have been better integrated to support the argument about global mobility. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with more detailed reasoning or specific evidence, rather than listing ideas briefly. The conclusion is a bit abrupt and does not fully synthesize the points discussed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'Firstly' and 'Secondly', but the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is slightly mechanical. The logical progression is generally clear, but some sentences within paragraphs feel disconnected. For instance, the second paragraph jumps between general statements about training and a specific example without a smooth transition. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance the flow and coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'methodologies', 'universal', and 'professional'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'make them more perfectionist' is not a standard collocation; 'enhance their expertise' would be more natural. Additionally, there is some repetition of basic phrases like 'Doctors and Engineers' and 'work in the country'. To improve, try to use more precise synonyms and vary your vocabulary to express complex ideas more effectively. The current range is sufficient for the task but lacks the flexibility required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'this a matter of personal choice' (missing 'is') and 'Many Indian every year, move' (should be 'Many Indians'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage, such as the unnecessary comma after 'training' in the first paragraph. These errors do not generally impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and refining your use of complex sentence structures will help improve your accuracy.
