Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people think that educated people such as healthcare workers and engineers should work in the country where they completed their education while others believe that people should be free to work in another country. This essay will discuss both views before giving my opinion.

On one hand, people who support this view believe that individuals should learn and understand the work environment in the country where they completed their education. Moreover, people think that increased number of connections with other people and companies allow students to easily get a job. People think that various factors such as living cost, transportation cost gets reduced if people work in their own country after the education. For instance, a person who completed his education in India, try to find a job in India, to reduce the cost of shifting to other country and with the help of the connection a person can easily get a job.

On the other hand, others argue that individuals should be free to work in another country. They believe this because it allows students to learn new skills and improve the lifestyle. Working in abroad not only helps a person to develop the skills but also makes them independent. Working in abroad develops the personality of individual in various terms and allows them to maintain the balance between the professional and personal life. Working in abroad allows a person to develop the skills globally and increase the opportunities. It also allows the person to earn and generate more income. For example, a person who studies computer science engineering can work in abroad and by developing the skills they can earn more in comparison to the home country.

In the conclusion, both views have their own explanations. However, I believe that educated professionals should be allowed to work abroad as it increase the opportunities and allows them to generate more income. In addition, working abroad allows individual to become independent and improve the life style.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive. For instance, the second body paragraph focuses heavily on 'developing skills' and 'earning more' without providing distinct, well-supported arguments. The examples provided, such as the Indian student or the computer science engineer, are relevant but lack depth. To reach a higher band, you should aim to explore the societal or economic implications of these views more thoroughly rather than listing similar benefits in a repetitive manner. The position is consistent throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into four paragraphs: an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On one hand', 'Moreover', and 'In the conclusion', which help the reader follow the argument. However, the use of these devices can feel a bit mechanical, and some transitions between sentences within paragraphs are slightly abrupt. Referencing is generally clear, but the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence builds more naturally upon the previous one.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic phrases like 'educated people', 'get a job', and 'earn more'. There is some repetition of words such as 'work', 'education', and 'skills'. While the meaning is always clear, there is little evidence of less common lexical items or idiomatic expressions. To improve, try to incorporate more academic collocations and synonyms to avoid repetitive phrasing and to demonstrate a more sophisticated command of the language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several recurring grammatical errors. For example, 'Working in abroad' is incorrect (it should be 'working abroad'), and there are issues with article usage ('the' before 'education' or 'the' before 'lifestyle'). Subject-verb agreement is occasionally inconsistent, such as 'factors... gets reduced'. These errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing the variety of complex structures while ensuring accuracy in basic grammar would be beneficial.
