Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people believe that professionals, such as doctors and engineers, should work in the country where they received their training. However, others think that they should be free to work in another country. In my opinion, professionals should have the freedom to choose where they want to work.
There are some reasons why professionals should work in the country where they were trained. First, governments spend a lot of money on education and training. For example, the government may provide universities, hospitals and other facilities to train doctors and engineers. If these professionals leave the country after completing their studies, the country may lose its investment. Moreover, developing countries may face a shortage of skilled workers if many professionals move abroad.
On the other hand, professionals should have the right to work in another country. One important reason is that they may find better job opportunities and higher salaries abroad. For example, a doctor may earn more money and have better working conditions in another country. In addition, working in a different country can help professionals gain new skills and experience. They can also improve their knowledge by working with people from different backgrounds.
In conclusion, although countries spend money on training professionals and need skilled workers, I believe that doctors, engineers and other professionals should be free to choose where they work. They should be able to move to another country if it provides better opportunities for their career and future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the essay falls short of the 250-word minimum requirement, which negatively impacts the development of ideas. While the arguments regarding government investment and individual career growth are relevant, they remain somewhat superficial. To reach a higher band, you need to expand your supporting points with more depth or additional examples. Because the response is under-length, it cannot fully develop the ideas to the level required for a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'First', 'Moreover', 'On the other hand', and 'In addition' effectively to link your points. However, the range of cohesive devices is somewhat limited and repetitive. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated linking phrases and ensure that the transition between sentences feels more natural rather than mechanical.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task and allows for clear communication. You use topic-specific terms like 'skilled workers', 'working conditions', and 'investment' correctly. However, the range of vocabulary is somewhat basic and lacks the 'less common' items that would demonstrate a higher level of lexical control. There is little evidence of collocations or idiomatic language. To achieve a higher score, focus on using more precise synonyms and academic collocations to express your ideas with greater nuance.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The grammar is generally accurate, and your sentences are easy to understand. You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the use of conditional clauses ('If these professionals leave...') and concessive clauses ('although countries spend money...'). There are very few grammatical errors, which is a strength. However, to move into the higher bands, you should aim for a wider variety of complex structures, such as passive voice constructions or more varied subordinate clauses, while maintaining this high level of accuracy.
