Student answer (Band 6.0)

I partly believe that professionals should be required to work in the country where they did their training. Some people believe this however others argue that they should be free to work in another country if they wish. This essay will discuss both points of view.

Majority of the people study and do training in their home country and later on serve their own country which is a good decision because of which many people expects them to work in their own country rather than serving another country. For instance, if I talk about country like Pakistan where there are limited health-care centers and almost none in the far flang areas of the country, there is a need to have more doctors to serve our nation. Majority of the doctors prefer to work in the big hospitals in Islamabad and Karachi to make a huge amount of money whereas there is less than 5% of the doctors working in the rural areas of the country. Similarly, major physical development has been done in the big cities of Pakistan and the rural areas are suffering due to lack of basic necessities such as proper roads, hospitals and transport facilities. Therefore, engineers are required in that part of the country as well. So according to some people's belief that professionals should serve in one's own country is right because our country needs skilled individuals who could do wonders for our economy and development.

Moving forward to the second point that professionals should be free to work in another country if they wish is not wrong. In my opinion, every single individual has the freedom to decide where he/she wants to work and live. It's totally up to their choice whether they prefer to stay in the country where they did training or serve in another country to earn money. That's a matter of fact that our country doesn't offer good amount of money to new engineers or doctors so the youth desires to go abroad in order to make a good amount of money to secure their future.

In conclusion, I would argue that it's totally personal choice and no one should impose their personal perspective on any professional and let them decide where they want to serve.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. The ideas regarding the need for professionals in developing nations like Pakistan are relevant and well-supported with specific examples. However, the development of the second viewpoint is slightly less detailed, focusing primarily on financial motivation rather than broader professional or human rights perspectives. The position is consistent throughout the essay, and the conclusion effectively summarizes the writer's stance. To reach a higher band, ensure that both sides of the argument are developed with equal depth and complexity.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices such as 'For instance', 'Similarly', 'Therefore', and 'Moving forward' are used to guide the reader through the arguments. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there is occasional repetition of phrasing (e.g., 'serve in another country'). The use of referencing is generally clear, though the flow between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother to better integrate the contrasting viewpoints. Overall, the structure is coherent and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task and allows for clear communication. The student uses some topic-specific terms like 'health-care centers', 'skilled individuals', and 'economy and development'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on simpler phrases like 'make a huge amount of money' or 'good amount of money', which are repetitive. There are also minor collocation issues, such as 'far flang areas' (should be 'far-flung') and 'major physical development has been done' (could be 'infrastructure development has taken place').

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'Majority of the people' (missing 'The'), 'many people expects' (subject-verb agreement), and 'according to some people's belief that... is right' (awkward sentence construction). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor slips throughout. The control of complex structures is present but not always accurate. Increasing the variety of sentence types and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would improve the score.
