Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people believe that professionals such as doctors and engineers should be required to work in the country where they received their training, while others think that they should have the freedom to work in another country. This essay will discuss both views, and I believe that professionals should be allowed to choose where they want to work.

On the other hand, there are some reasons why professionals should work in the country they were trained. First of all, training doctors and engineers can be very expensive, and governments often spend a large amount of public money on their education. Therefore, it seems reasonable that these professionals should work in their own country for some years after completing their training. This can help the country benefit from the money it has invested in them. In addition, developing countries may have a shortage of skilled workers, especially doctors, so keeping trained professionals can improve important public services.

Moreover. I believe that professionals should have the freedom to work any country or anywhere they want to. One possible reason is that people should have the right to choose their workplace and career. Working abroad can provide better salaries, improved working conditions and more opportunities for professional development. Foe example, a doctor may move to another country because it offers better medical facilities and allows them to learn new techniques. Furthermore, professionals who work abroad can gain valuable experience and may later use this knowledge to benefit their home country.

In conclude, although countries have a valid reason to expect trained professionals to contribute to their society, I believe that doctors ,and engineers and other skilled workers should ultimately have the freedom to choose where they work

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both viewpoints and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the economic argument regarding public investment in education and the individual's right to career mobility. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat brief. While the arguments are logical, they could be extended further with more specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. The position is consistent throughout the essay, and the conclusion effectively summarizes the stance. To improve, ensure that each body paragraph provides a more comprehensive exploration of the points raised.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two viewpoints. Cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'In addition', 'Moreover', and 'Furthermore' are used to guide the reader through the arguments. However, there are some minor issues with punctuation and flow, such as the fragment 'Moreover. I believe...' and the slightly awkward phrasing in the conclusion. The progression of ideas is generally smooth, but the transition between the two viewpoints could be more sophisticated to improve the overall cohesion of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally appropriate and sufficient for the task. You successfully use terms like 'public money', 'skilled workers', 'professional development', and 'medical facilities'. There are some minor errors, such as 'In conclude' instead of 'In conclusion' and the repetitive use of 'work' and 'country'. While the range is adequate to convey your meaning clearly, there is a lack of more sophisticated or less common lexical items that would demonstrate a higher level of control. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise collocations and academic synonyms would help elevate your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. You use complex sentences effectively, such as 'Some people believe that professionals... should be required to work... while others think that they should have the freedom...'. However, there are several grammatical and punctuation errors, including 'work any country' (missing preposition), 'doctors ,and engineers and' (incorrect punctuation and redundant conjunction), and the aforementioned 'In conclude'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for minor slips and ensuring consistent subject-verb agreement will improve your accuracy.
