Student answer (Band 5.5)

In the contemporary era, few individuals believe that exports professions such as doctors and engineers should work in their country, where they did their training. However, other people think that they should be free to work in any country as they wish. This essay will discuss both views before presenting my own opinion.

On the one hand, where they did their training they can good perform in their home country. This is because some people feel much comfortable in their environment because many professionals such as doctor, engineers and technician they can easily communicate with their team. As a result, they are better perform in their fields without language barrier. Furthermore, people believe that they should live and work in their country because if doctors go to another countries their home countries people can face a lack of doctors and professionals. To illustrate, Malta need a lot of doctors and engineers because their population is very low. Consequently, there are shortage of these professions.

On the other hand, many doctors and technicians want to go others countries. The main reason for this that they frustrated with their jobs because they earn very small amount every month and sometimes they get their salary lately. Therefore, they can get high-paid job in other countries. For instance, Indian nurses after registration and fulfil their job experience, they go different countries such as US, Canada and New Zealand. Hence, they can secure their future with high-paying job.

To conclude, many individuals like to work in their country because they already socialise with their environment and they do not need learn new language because if people go western countries must be know their language. On the contrary, doctors and engineers can better earn and live good life. From my perspective if people want to go other countries they can go and work.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding the 'brain drain' in Malta is a good start but lacks depth. The explanation for why professionals leave is also quite brief, focusing primarily on salary issues. To improve, you should expand on the broader societal or economic implications of these choices. While the prompt is addressed, the ideas are somewhat repetitive and could be more thoroughly supported with more nuanced reasoning to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use basic cohesive devices like 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'To conclude' to signal transitions. However, the internal cohesion within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical or awkward, such as in the sentence 'This is because some people feel much comfortable in their environment because many professionals such as doctor, engineers and technician they can easily communicate with their team.' The use of referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be smoother through more varied linking words.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. You rely on simple phrasing, such as 'good perform' instead of 'perform well' or 'high-paid job' instead of 'lucrative career'. There are also some word-choice errors, such as 'exports professions' (likely meant 'expert' or 'specialized') and 'get their salary lately' (should be 'late'). To improve, focus on using more sophisticated collocations and academic vocabulary related to the topic of migration and professional development, rather than repeating basic terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('Malta need', 'there are shortage'), incorrect article usage ('go to another countries'), and awkward phrasing ('if people go western countries must be know their language'). While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement and pluralization would be highly beneficial.
