Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The essay addresses both viewpoints and provides a personal opinion, satisfying the task requirements. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding Malta is a bit confusing, as it is unclear why a low population would lead to a shortage of professionals. The personal opinion in the conclusion is also quite brief and lacks sufficient justification or depth. To improve, you should aim to expand on your points with more logical explanations and clearer examples, ensuring that your position is consistently maintained and fully supported throughout the entire response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'On the one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'Furthermore,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'In the contemporary era, few individuals believe...' which does not accurately reflect the prompt. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, and some sentences feel disjointed. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence flows naturally into the next will help elevate your score in this criterion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'professionals,' 'language barrier,' and 'high-paid job.' However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'they can good perform' instead of 'they can perform well' and 'socialize their people.' The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on basic structures. To achieve a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and a wider range of academic vocabulary to express your ideas with greater sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('Malta need a lot of doctors'), incorrect verb forms ('they are better perform'), and missing articles or prepositions ('go others countries'). While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevent the writing from reaching a higher level. Focusing on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and correct verb tense usage will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
