Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both perspectives and providing a clear, personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, particularly the argument regarding 'brain drain' and the benefits of global mobility. The proposed compromise of mandatory service periods is a thoughtful and logical extension of the discussion. The position is consistent throughout the essay, and the conclusion effectively synthesizes the main points. To reach a higher band, ensure that all arguments are fully explored with slightly more depth, though the current level of development is sufficient for a strong score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two viewpoints and the author's own opinion. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to guide the reader. However, there are some minor issues with punctuation and sentence flow that occasionally make the progression feel slightly mechanical. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally appropriate for the task, with some good topic-specific terms such as 'brain drain', 'state-subsidized', and 'professional mobility'. There are, however, several spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'violets' instead of 'violates', 'forests' instead of 'fosters', and 'fold married' instead of 'hold merit'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a wider range of precise vocabulary to reach the higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts to use complex sentences, there are frequent errors in punctuation, capitalization, and basic grammar (e.g., 'Individual should have to the freedom', 'these movement could steeple'). Some sentences are run-on or lack necessary punctuation, which affects the clarity of the writing. To improve, the student should focus on subject-verb agreement, correct use of articles, and ensuring that complex sentences are punctuated correctly to avoid confusion.
