Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued that whether professionals such as doctors, engineers and others should work in the country in which they received training or should they move abroad to enhance their career if they wish. In this regard, different people have different view points according to their own mentality and beliefs. This essay will discuss the both notions before citing a suitable and logical conclusion along with my personal opinion.

On the one hand, there are benefits of working and perusing career in the country in which individual received the training as it will not only help the person to cope with familiar environment but it will also be advantageous for the nation as it will fill the shortage of professionals like doctors. While engineers could benefit themselves along with the nation by improving the infrastructure of the country by various means and getting fair recognition. In addition, government of various nations help the individual to set up their own firm or business in the country by providing subsidies and other potential benefits.

On the other hand, individuals must not be forced to stay in their own country as it will violate their right to freedom. People must be free to travel to the another country if they wish to enhance their career, get better pay, set up a business or any other reason. Also, it helps individual to experience better environment and improve their standard of living by travelling to the desired country. In addition, countries with shortage of professional workers and employees constantly search for people so it becomes a better opportunity for people to take advantage to get better overall recognition.

In my opinion, i firmly believe that their must not be any restriction on any of the aforementioned notion as it depends person to person yet government could improve the working environment so the concept of brain drain does not come into existence in the respective country.

To conclude, although there are some benefits for living and working the country in which the person trained yet people and government must not force the individual to stay in the same country. I believe it is the personal choice of individual that whether he wants to stay or move abroad.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding 'brain drain' is mentioned in the conclusion but not explored in the body paragraphs. The points about government subsidies and personal freedom are relevant but could be supported with more specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. The introduction is slightly repetitive and contains grammatical issues that affect the clarity of the prompt's restatement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'In addition', and 'To conclude' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is slightly hindered by awkward phrasing, such as 'discuss the both notions'. The referencing is generally clear, but the connection between sentences could be smoother to improve the overall progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'infrastructure', 'subsidies', and 'brain drain'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'perusing career' (likely meaning 'pursuing') and 'mentality and beliefs' which is slightly unnatural in this context. More precise academic collocations would elevate the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'discuss the both notions', 'their must not be', and 'it depends person to person'. Additionally, there are issues with article usage and subject-verb agreement. While these errors do not prevent communication, they occur frequently enough to limit the score. A greater variety of error-free complex structures is needed for a higher band.
